The News

Having read many of the threads, one of the recurring themes is the loss of quality media reporting whether in print, online or on TV and how it has diversified, not all of it in a good way.

NewsNight tonight had a bit about the Bately and Spen by-election where rather and answer a question Galloway churned out the "fake news" excuse for not talking to the BBC.

So it got me thinking.  If one wanted to be more politically, socially and culturally informed, which media streams should they be looking at and which should they be wary of  (bearing in mind it is always worth paying attention to what the other half say).

I know this might be difficult to answer as it depends on your political view point as to where you might go for your news, but would be interesting to see posters sources.

I rarely watch or read the news these days but if something particularly irks me and the story is big enough, I'll occasionally visit Reuters site and see what they're saying.

Reuters talks a lot of pish about South America

AlJ Jazeera has blind spots in the Middle East

BBC can't report accurately on Russia or China

English language versions of European papers are usually more interesting than UK broadsheets

The Daily Star is better than most red tops

Blogs, YouTube, Interviews and specialist  journal articles often give a much better idea about a subject than "our man in Caracas" style

On the global news scene (primarily US based) the1% control the narrative, pulling the strings on all news, as governments cow tow to them.

Social media poisoned and go against the narrative your cancelled.

Social engineering in action

Big Tech rules.

If you're a moron.

I'm a fan of Russia today, especially the "Going Underground" show. Very in depth look at some issues not covered by the news (I recall a fascinating look at the increasing privatisation of public spaces) and the fella who hosts is highly intelligent and wonderfully warm and calm with guests. Doesn't let them away with pish, but doesn't need to talk over, patronise or bully his guests.

I've the economist as my only paid source. Its bias is fairly openly declared.

Al Jazeera is the only watchable telly news but i can't take it at face value.

Bbc isn't as bad as russia today or fox news, yet.

Plenty sources readily available to compare and contrast these days and no need to rely on an editorial agenda.

For factual stuff, local and foreign,I still use the BBC but for comment and analysis I am increasingly watching GBNews as it tends to be in tune with my own centre right, anti woke views.

"centre" lol

I suppose if BlueBear wanted an alternative perspective he could put down the Rangers News and pick up the Celtic View instead...

"Celtic fans plan friendly protest as group warn that club are on notice pending January review in Neil Lennon callback."

😂

On gbnews, i have to say i was a bit taken aback by Neil Oliver last night ranting about vaccinating children against covid.

I don't necessarily disagree with his pov on that issue, but f**k me he was soap box heavy. He's really jumped all-in with the 'fake news' folk that are fans of that channel.

Just goes to show you can't trust a no voter.

Online news sites seem a bit depressing to be honest, I dont feel that great after reading them while I still enjoy reading a real newspaper its relaxing. I guess its the layout, its all clickbait on online news trying to get you

You also pick up on stories that google news or individual news sites haven't highlighted.

Could you clarify please?

Was he ranting for or against vaccinating children and what were his reasons for that POV?

What fake news are you talking about?
