So Newcastle should not be allowed to spend any money on new players?

How are they different to Man City?

Do you think that Ronaldo left Juventus to shop in the Arndale centre?

Or are you just a sanctimonious hypocrite?

They aren’t any different to Man City… that’s kind of the whole point.

Really? Newcastle underspent and spent badly (e.g. £40m on Joelinton) under Ashley.

Howe inherited most of the squad from Bruce and six are still out injured.

Only three new signings started this afternoon and Guimares made a very late appearance off the bench.

Trippier has made a huge difference. Wood has been meh and it was Burn's first start.

If Newcastle survive, it won't be due to spending megabucks on big name players.

Eh ? They are an absolutely shit football team who were the top spending club in the world in the winter transfer window due to having unlimited funds after accepting blood money being invested into them.

Players haven’t swapped Atletico and Lyon for footballing reasons - they’ve moved because Newcastle are loaded.

If Newcastle stay up they’ll have bought their way out of trouble - it’s probably the most obvious example ever. They won one game pre transfer window, and have won 3 since.

So top players have signed for Man City, Man United, Liverpool Chelsea,  Spurs etc because money was not a factor? Get real!

If Newcastle were loaded like those clubs, they'd have signed better players than ageing jobbers like Wood and Burn.

Only Trippier has made a big difference so far. Otherwise, the squad is the same as Bruce's.

They are very different.

Man City have spent much more than Newcastle over the last few seasons

They got away with breaching FFP rules which is the real "whole point".

I'm not a Newcastle fan but your comparison is totally ridiculous.

FFS man, "buying success" has always been a term used in football to describe teams who are, or have recently become disproportionately wealthy. It fits Newcastle like a fucking glove by any measure. How are folk arguing about this?

Buying "success", i.e. spending £40m on Wood and Burn , whilst in the relegation zone? 😂

IIRC Norwich City have out-spent Newcastle this season.

They spent £92m in the January window and have spent more than twice as much as Norwich have over the course of the season. Their net spend for the whole season is £100m more than Norwich.

Aside from that you’re spot on!

Delia Smith also doesn't kill people.

Wow. VAR got a decision right.

Was this the Newcastle freekick? Looked to me like the ref wasn't sure so just gave a pen knowing that VAR would bail him out either way. Right decision in the end and the Geordies got what they wanted anyway.

About them buying their way to safety. Yes of course having the money has made a massive difference and helped bring people in, but other than Trippier the signings haven't had much of an impact yet.

Far more credit has to go to Eddie Howe for changing the style of play of the team and the mentality of some players. Fraser & Shelvey are playing better than they have for a long time, Willock is starting to look like he cares about football again and not just a contract, Joelinton is a completely different player in his new position and the previously calamitous & weak defence is starting to look more secure.
