Ireland v scotland

Recommended Posts

I think that second half was even worse than the first, man alive. That’s one of - if not the actual - worst Scotland performance I’ve seen in 30 years.
With all the hubris and arrogance from many Scotland fans before this game ‘get them pumped etc’ I’m sure many of us expected a bloody nose and not to win the game. That would be typical Scotland, right?
Maybe it will end in a draw, or could we even narrowly lose? Both of those outcomes would have been utterly unacceptable results.
Like the Ukraine game a few weeks ago, I’m sure even the most pessimistic of us didn’t expect a pumping. But of course that is what has happened, again.
How could anyone have possibly predicted that the worst Ireland team for about 50 years would go out and give us an absolute hiding?
This Scotland team has, for the second time in a couple of weeks, managed to perform even worse than the most pessimistic fan could have foreseen. It’s remarkable how bad we are, really.
That result and performance was nothing short of a national disgrace and 3-0 flatters us. It could easily have been five or six, thankfully Ireland got their cigars out and showed us a bit of mercy in the last 20 minutes.
We barely created a clear cut chance of note in the whole game. Ireland scored three fine goals and missed the two best chances of the game.
None of the starting 11 comes out with any credit there. McGinn and McGregor got a midfield lesson from Knight and Molumby, a couple of kids who play in the English championship. The much mocked Shane Duffy strolled the game and dominated both boxes, give me him over McKenna Hanley and Hendry et all every day of the week. Adams and Christie were there usual anonymous selves. They should watch a tape of Obafemi’s performance today to see what we need from our forwards, he gave our defence the run around, scored one and set one up, outstanding. Ralston and Robertson offered nothing out wide, either defensively or going forward, pathetic. The charlatan Gilmour made us even worse when he came on, does anyone still think he’s potentially world class? Fucking lol.
Clarke won’t be sacked until the end of the Euros campaign, but that’s us completely out the running for winning our group. Lose in Armenia next week and relegation is a real possibility.
Now the back door to Germany 2024 is closed, we will need to finish in the top two of our actual qualification group to get there. Does anyone think we can manage it? Nope, me neither.

I would agree that the second half was worse than the first. At least in the first half we created chances, and probably should've had at least two goals. That second half was Kazakhstan levels of absolute shite.

Something has to change. McGinn, Robertson, McTominay, all of the centre-backs and probably Gordon should all be dropped.

First time since 2014 Ireland have scored 3 goals at home (in a competitive match).

First ever win in the Nations League for Ireland.

Ireland's last three competitive wins at home were against Gibraltar, Moldova and some other low ranking pish I can't recall right now.

Before today Ireland had only ever scored 2 goals in the Nations League.

First time ever Ireland have scored 3 goals against Scotland, meaning this is Ireland's biggest ever win against Scotland.

Christ almighty, what a result.  The consensus on the radio earlier was that a draw would be a lousy result for us.

I didn't watch it.  Just how bad were we?

Probably the worst I remember seeing ever given the relative abilities of both sides on paper.

Let’s Push Things Forward imo.

Wish I'd knocked down my aerial earlier so I didn't get this pish.

Of course I don't actually have an aerial, I streamed the game via the Xbox, but I don't think Mr Skinner considered such technology when he wrote the (fantastic) song.

I've not subscribed m8.

Imagine defending fucking Gary Breen. That's as big an embarrassment as that Scotland performance.

In case you couldn’t see I actually quoted 2 posts.

Not defending Gary Breen as he is utter dogshit. Just sick of fans piling on petty wee things such as this when their team is being shagged.

Aye this is probably worse than Kazakhstan. We were inured to shite by that point and it was just more of the same. This team have given us promise of something better and this feels like a false dawn. I've not been a fan of 3-5-2 when we haven't had Tierney as every time we've looked lost. I don't want to sack the manager mainly because I have no faith that the SFA will make the right appointment next. I hope he learns from this and develops a decent plan B.
This bunch couldn't even score 3 against Gibraltar. We look like a massive soft touch.
Soft touch is exactly the phrase I'd use.
It was as if we came out expecting Ireland to sit off us in awe. When they didn't, we had nothing. They brilliantly bullied us out of the game. We had a shite defence, no grip of midfield and up front we just weren't even present.

I wholeheartedly agree with your viewpoint.

This ain’t your typical Scotland performance (it actually is).
