Broxburn Athletic

Recommended Posts

Today we kinda saw both sides of Broxburn in what turned out to be a hard fought 2-2 draw.

Really poor for about the first hour, passes were missing targets and Musselburgh almost looked to be more up for it. 2-0 down to two poor goals to concede... both almost a throwback to the bad old days of last season... but then something happened! A bit of a change of system and for a solid 15 minutes, Broxburn were so good they were almost unplayable and Musselburgh couldn't get close to them. Brilliant Jones corner for Brass to get the first... but then the link up play between Nimmo and Locke that led to the equaliser was just sublime - the play was rewarded by a good finish from Jones. After that it looked like Broxburn would go on to win it, but credit to Musselburgh who got themselves back into the game and the last 10/15 was quite end to end as both sides looked for a winner that just never came.

Draw probably works better for us than Musselburgh and with Jeanfield losing today, Broxburn really have managed to extend that lead at the top.

I think after todays results it’s now Broxburn’s to lose. Great fight back fro 2-0 down. Tricky games to come but the challengers also face such games 🇵🇱🇵🇱🇵🇱

I think a win would have done almost done it for Broxburn. A draw hasn't moved us any further clear of Musselburgh, but has given them fewer games to make up the difference.

Delighted with the draw the way the match went, though.

Next two league games are both home against sides down near the bottom. Win both and it would be an incredible run of freak results for Broxburn to then not win the league... starting to feel it'll happen...

A good solid win today against struggling Luncarty and really the 6-0 scoreline was a pretty decent reflection of the game.

Absolute worldy from Alassan Jones was the pick of them.

Luncarty looked like they might make a game of it early on, but once the first goal went in there was only going to be one winner and 2nd half, other than a couple of breaks, was pretty one-sided.

Any truth in the rumour that Max Christie returning next season ?

The fans are more than happy with our present management team who are already building for next season.

1st I've heard of such a thing... so assume not. And current management team are doing a fantastic job!

I said same thing when I heard. Why change something that is clearly going very well but told Max was going to chuck money in if you make it to the LL.

I'd definitely rather have the right people and less cash than an influx of money from a source that doesn't have a particularly great LL record!

Hopefully just some misguided rumour with no substance.

Another good display from all involved, a couple of formation changes to suit personnel and tactics, current management team are doing a great job and are well supported by a great committee without max a millions dough although he is a great guy.

An excellent 1-0 win over a very good Tranent side tonight. Backs to the wall for much of the game, but an excellent team performance and best defensive display of the season by far. Stand in 'keeper Donoghue was outstanding and brilliantly saved a penalty too.

Winning with just about the last kick of the game too was a sweet way to do it. Tranent will be kicking themselves, better side for most of the game, but Broxburn done just enough to keep them out.

Game of 2 halves today!

First half was bad enough to almost make the eyes bleed. A lack of urgency in midfield, unable to successfully get the ball forward and looking like we were really missing Lewis Turner in there. Inverkeithing scored, from their point of view, 2 very good goals, but the Broxburn defence gave them too much time and space in the build up to each.

2nd half started better with much needed more urgency, but there was still just a lack of cutting edge. And then Ross Nimmo came off the bench. The extra width and pace pulled the Inverkeithing defence all over the place and in the final 20 minutes, Broxburn  scored 5 and made it look a comfortable victory. Pick of the bunch was the last, excellent play by Downie to play ball through for Jones to smash home from 20 yards with a first time shot.

It would be nice to stop giving sides the lead against us, but another 3 points today and the run goes on.

Think that now 23 points taken from losing positions. Only Dunbar have seen it through.

First half was like watching the season’s under Chris Townsley. No pace in midfield and no width.

Nimmo and Bremner made a huge difference as did Downie. Pagey had a mare but he is entitled to several free passes as he has been outstanding all season.

Can’t fault teams attitude and never say die application.

That's an excellent stat that shows the guys keep going for 90+ minutes.

That's also exactly what I thought of the first half too... was almost like pulling a performance from last season and dropping it down on us.

Gotta take the positives, though. 5 goals, 3 points, bench changed the game showing squad depth again, goals shared amongst the team.

Hopefully start more switched on next week against Glenrothes who are a bit stronger at the back.

First half we where misplacing so many passes and we looked to be missing Turner. Luckily Bremner and Nimmo came on to change things. Nimmo is our super sub. Still a decent starter but much more effective as a sub, he gets us more points and goals this way. Well done Brox.

Swifts miss a great opportunity 2nd half to go 3 up, may have been different.... Howver no excuse for losing 5 in last 20 mins. Seen enough up to then to suggest we can take points off teams before end of season.

Arguably we've rode our luck a bit in recent games by starting badly, going behind and then having to perform wonders to get something out the game. That luck ended yesterday, but ironically started quite well and took the lead.

In fairness to Glenrothes, when it mattered, they took their chances while we just couldn't get a break in their box... goals being a penalty and a consolation distance strike from the full back.

Least said about ref, the better... but the players have to understand that at this level there are bad officials. Their frustration is understandable, but they have to be more disciplined... too many bookings for dissent is going to cost us and it contributed to a soft red card.

Couple of cup ties up next to help get this one out the system and maybe rotate squad a little.

It’s difficult to criticise management due to where we are. Felt the last couple of games we could have done with natural width much earlier. We got out of jail against Swifts but not against Glenrothes. Always thought this would be a tricky game and still can’t believe they are so low down in the league having seen them match Broxburn all the way twice.
