What's going on at Broxburn?

Feeling the pressure? Crapped the bed? Even when they have been getting results recently, it's kind of sneaking over the line and comebacks.

Can they be caught?

I think so. A big possibility but also in our hands. Hard games against jeanfield and Dunbar coming

Mathematically can definitely be caught... and last couple of games have been poor results. The couple before that have been poor performances, but squeezing over the line and doing just enough. There is a definite stutter, but it would still take a run of incredible results to not win the league. Although Musselburgh are finding a bit of form at the right time of season just as we are getting inconsistent.

Disappointed doesn't even touch how management, players and most of all fans will be feeling after this semi final.

So many things to analyse and have opinions on but it's gone and the future is the way forward.

Let's galvanise, win our remaining league games and win the league for all involved.

I really thought after last week and after the last match against Swifts that the team would be refocused for this one.

Instead, it was Swifts that learned lessons from our last match and when they got in front, this time they tightened at the back.

It seems that teams take goals of us early and then sit back to let us back into the game. It's not really us playing better after going behind but a change of tactics by our opponents that's helped us

Imo our problem in the last 2 games is that the stickers are off the boil. Scoring easily earlier in the campaign but have dried up a little. Too often our strikers get the ball with their backs to goal and need 3 or 4 touches before they're ready to turn or shoot, by then the defenders tackle them. They don't make a decent shot or lay off the ball to a better placed teammate.  They also have low anticipation of where the ball might break from or where a teammate will pass it too. Almost watching the ball at times than being ready to pounce on a chance. Frustrating watching them. Just shoot!

As easy as that

Tricky away cup tie. Left it late to get the winner... but kept a clean sheet and got through, so it has to go down as a good day. Not the greatest performance, and the first half was quite poor. Leith looked a decent, pacey side, and maybe if they'd taken one of their 3 or 4 good chances before we scored, it would have been all different. But some great saves from Bob and one outstanding last ditch tackle from Heath kept them out.

Happy with the win and the well worked goal... but we need to perform so much better, especially with a big league match at Jeanfield next week.

Poor again yesterday. Although they had the bulk of possession didn’t think they created much until Nimmo came on.

Leith had a number of good chances but didn’t really test the keeper until near the end.

In a cup tie it’s all about getting through so in that respect it’s job done.

League far from a done deal on recent performances. Confidence looks low which is really surprising considering where they are in the league.

Tricky game next week

It's also worth noting that Mussleburgh lost on Saturday in the cup. All good runs come to an end eventually like ours has. If we get a result on Saturday then it will lift us no end. Lots of experience in the team which makes the difference.

Take away the month of March which has been a bit of a tricky one and it's been a phenomenal season. Even including March, it's been beyond expectations.

No right to expect to beat anyone as a lot of decent sides at this level, but we can maybe ask for more consistent performances... easier said than done, but confidence should be high.

Hoping that next week, it's a chance to refocus on the league and refocus on it being one of the better sides in the division so the team will have to have their A game from the start... which if it is, could see us getting back to a more positive feeling again.

I think Musselburgh’s chances of winning 7 from 7 is what will help Broxburn probably win the league rather than my faith in Broxburn closing it out.

Hope I’m wrong as they do deserve it. Been consistent all season even when not playing well

Right now this is my feeling too, there is maybe just too much for Musselburgh to do to catch us and if we can just keep adding the odd points here and there to keep it a moving target for them, all the better.

I hope it's just been the long period of inconsistent weather and cup ties coming in too and would love to see us play some great stuff and get a few solid wins... a bit like we were before New Year... and claim it with a bit of style.

  • 2 weeks later...

Well conditions are still a bit on the blustery side it was never going to be a classic, but we ended up with quite a fiery and competitive match. As it turns out, with being a man down for a large period of the game, coming from behind and getting the 1-1 draw is a good result. And unexpectedly, other results have gone in our favour to make it a pretty decent day.

Thought the lads competed brilliantly when down to 10 men and for large spells of the 2nd half it wasn't obvious and thought Big Errol put himself about well and was a total nuisance for their defence. Deserved his goal. His best game since he got the green boots!!

Today's the sort of day that wins you titles- Broxburn get a point with 10 men when it could have been a far worse result and the potential nearest challengers unexpectedly lose.

Fancy Dunbar to get three points on Tuesday though...

We only need to win 3 off our 5 games if Mussleburgh win all theirs. So obviously we'll beat Dunbar and Jeanfield, lose the rest and Mussleburgh will drop points somewhere to win us the league.
