I can only concur that Truss is terminally stupid. How in the name of f**k did she manage to sell herself as competent? And what does that say about the broader elected party.

Like May before her, she'll try and play herself up as the living vessel for the spirit of their beloved "mummy" Thatcher.

I genuinely can't believe they've nominated the absolute thickest of the bunch for a run off. And that's some achievement.

It’s Mark McGhee all over again..

If six months ago anyone on here had suggested Truss could be the next PM they would have been laughed at.  And rightly so.

I really hope she wins.

She will win. Can you honestly imagine the coffin dodging Tory Membership voting for a brown bloke? Even an elitist uber rich fud like Sunak?

But Truss is absolutely batshit. She'll do something utterly insane.

Quite. GD using the same stupid reasoning that saw him vote for Brexit, let's hope the worst possible thing happens because it will, somehow, lead to everything being okay. Utter Underpants Gnomes logic.

If the Tories veer further to the right, as we have seen, the political centre, the media and, to an extent, the Labour Party move with them and everybody suffers.

Sunak may be a twat and a crook but would be a thousand times better than that crank Truss. If she gets in poor people, trade unions, minorities, refugees and any movement which seeks to reduce inequality will suffer.

Wanting her to win out of some fanciful dream that it will somehow lead to Scottish independence or just for the "LOLs" is privileged nonsense.

Well the previous incumbents have been busy finishing off the poor and infirm since 2010, and that doesn't appear to be any cause for concern for most of the electorate, so you can only conclude that another square go with some developing nation over some god forsaken island in the middle of nowhere that hosts more livestock than pretendy Brits would likely be a net vote winner, even if a few of 'are brave boys' come back sloshing around in the bottom of a box.

She is on record as saying she will stand up to Putin and become the next leader of the free world.

She could be even more delusioned than BoJo.

It would be good if she meant that in a physical, literal sense, so we could plonk a lid and some body armour on her and dump her in a trench in SE Ukraine somewhere.

Nonsense.  Unsurprising nonsense.

The Labour Party is going to stay very much where it is. The Independence movement will certainly benefit from Mad Lizzie at the wheel.

Anyone who is not sold on how essential Independence is for Scotland must have been sleepwalking these last few years.  Remaining part of this wholly disfunctional union is simply not an option.

The only privilege is the privilege of setting you straight.

Sunak at least is intelligent even if his politics are awful and he's a crook and a chancer.  Truss couldn't think her way out of a paper bag.

A Tory's a tory at the end of the day - the longer that party runs the country the worse life will be for the majority of people in this country, regardless of who's in charge. If Truss gets in it will be yet another disaster for the UK but also a disaster for the Conservatives who are in need of some sort of stability after the Johnson era. Sunak would bring that stability but Truss wouldn't because she's an absolute balloon.

It doesn't matter if 90% of people in Scotland are in favour of independence if there is no legally recognised second vote. Truss has already ruled it out. The Attorney General for Scotland that decides whether Sturgeon (or any other First Minister) can unilaterally declare one will be appointed by her. Which way do you think they're likely to go?

The only way Scotland gets a second referendum is with a Labour Government lacking a majority which needs SNP support. No Tory PM/Attorney General will sign off on a second referendum in this era of Brexity flag-shagging that you voted for.

Lots of poor people will suffer under Truss, finding said suffering cause for celebration is revolting behaviour.

Privileged, uncaring, nonsense.

The problem with this is that you can no more reason with the Tory Party of 2022 than you can with a rabid dog.  They need to be metaphorically put down at the ballot box and the most expedient way of that happening is for a Tory-owned recession piloted by an economic illiterate populist like Truss.

There are simply no shades of good or better here.
