invergowrie arab
I played in the Perthshire Cubs Cup Final for Invergowrie v Blairgowrie at McDiarmaid in 1992 before St Johnstone V Airdrie. It finished 0-0 and they wouldn't let us play ET and pens because those other jobbers needed to play out a meaningless last game of season draw, much to the annoyance of the majority of the 3000 crowd.

Obviously a different sport but I found it really weird in hindsight- imagine we had the Junior Cup final at Hampden then straight into a Nations League game? Scottish Rugby have all their Cup Finals on the same day at Murrayfield. A few seasons ago (2018, I think), they also ended the day with the final 1872 match between Glasgow and Edinburgh

Yep e.g. Lasswade High School 2-0 St Josephs Academy played immediately before Rangers v Dunfermline on Sat 28 Apr 1990 Beath High School 0-0 St Kentigerns Academy (8-7p) played immediately before St Johnstone v Celtic on Sat 11 May 1991 Cardinal Newman High School 2-0 Holyrood Secondary School [Glasgow] played immediately before Hearts v Falkirk on Sat 2 May 1992 etc.

Donathan
Always thought this would be a decent idea in the unlikely event that neither of the OF reach the semi final of a cup competition.
lichtgilphead
Rangers and Dundee United played European ties against Maltese opposition in 1983/84. Both games were played at Malta's national stadium at Ta Qali on 14th September 1983. I think Rangers played first, beating Valetta 8.0, then United played Hamrun Spartans, winning 3.0
HibeeJibee
Interesting example in this quarter's Scottish Football Historian of a Junior Cup SF arranged to capitalise upon a big Hampden crowd: on Saturday 21st April 1951 a crowd of 29,000 saw Armadale v Petershill at Hampden... after 132,000 saw Celtic 1-0 Motherwell in Scottish Cup Final. Sadly a collision of football specials between Pollokshields East / Queen's Park killed 2 and injured 57. EDIT: illustrating an aspect seldom recollected when people hark back to the 'big crowds in old grounds' glory days - at the final itself 1 man died and "over 30" were hurt, by crushes and fainting. MEADOWXI
From Meadow club stats, Played each other twice in one day, the final and the replay; On the afternoon of June 16, 1962 Irvine Meadow and Greenock drew 2-2 in the West of Scotland Cup Final. As the season was due to finish that day the Clubs met again that same evening and Meadow collected the silverware with a 4-0 win.

Donathan
I’ve always felt that this would be a decent idea for the league cup/Scottish cup in the case that none of the OF make. Give each club a quarter of the stadium and play the two semis back to back.

Assuming a Hampden venue (or either of the OF grounds) you're effectively limiting the teams to around 12,000 each allowing for segregation, perhaps less as not sure how easily the stadium could be split 4 ways. A fair few clubs would be effectively rationed by that. So you're shutting people out to have, at best, half a crowd who are lukewarm to the game in front of them. At worst, and far more likely, you'd have half the stadium empty for both games without even the advantages of saving on stewarding costs. It's pretty doubtful many of the supporters from the 2nd game would show up early enough to see the 1st one, and it's even less likely that either set of fans from the 1st game stay for the 2nd one. The winners want to go celebrate making a cup final, the losers want to go home and forget about it. And how long are you having people sit around between games? How many dressing rooms are at Hampden? If there's not 4 then you're needing teams to vacate the dressing rooms before the other teams can come in. If there aren't separate dressing rooms you're looking at 3 hours minimum between games really. Who's going to sit around in the stadium waiting that long for a game they don't directly care about?
zenon
Both football and rugby took place at McDiarmid Park on November 13th 2004, St Johnstone drawing 1-1 with Ross County at lunchtime and Scotland humping Japan 100-8 in the autumn test in the early evening.

I think Hampden has at least four, and they had back to back games at the 2012 Olympics (12 noon and 2.45 kick off times at the men's games I was at, 5 pm and 7.45 in the women's games, although they were group games so there was no chance of extra time and penalties).
