The SNP themselves stated that the funds were ringfenced.  That part isn't disputed.  Remember Nicola's "we work on a cashflow basis" answers?  Contradicted by Ian McCann who stated that someone couldn't have a refund as the funds were ringfenced and couldn't be spent until Westminster issues a Section 30 order

Donations are in a ring-fenced fund to fight the next referendum whenever we are in a position to call that. As you are aware, the Scottish Parliament has passed enacting legislation to allow that to go ahead as soon as Westminster passes the Section 30 Order. We are not in a position to refund those monies

The donate link doesn't work.  However you would have to be extremely generous in your interpretation of the site to think that it 2as for general SNP campaigning.

how many mentions of the SNP can you see.  How many mentions are there of raising money for general campaigning?

But no actual donor form.

That is the key thing because that’s the only way to legally tie in an individual's donation to ringfencing.

Ethically wrong but not necessarily a criminal act.

You can see here the SNP say the money is not for General Election spending

From the date here it looks like the SNP spunked all that money on The Growth Commission.

Of course there was a donor form.  It also didn't mention the SNP.  See the previous post for how the party themselves looked on these donations.

Someone must surely have copy of the donor form - it's the first thing I'd be looking for.  Bound to be in some archive or drive somewhere.

Presumably JC audited the SNP accounts up until the last financial year? And for all the years that the £600k is being questioned?

And if they signed them off (which they clearly did) then removing themselves for this year doesnt absolve them of any responsibility to ensure they are accurate.

BBC has this as the "top story" on their Scotland section and have not posted the (rather obvious) commentary that I have above.

BBC are really showing their colours this week.

If the auditors had failed in their responsibility it would be their client sacking them, not them binning their client, and they would be facing liability costs and an investigation by the FRC.

Nothing to suggest this is the case.

All this fuss and it turns out that the £600k was acquired by a 12-year old kid with a book on JavaScript forms and CSS instructions scribbled on a napkin.

The prevailing view among accountants is that they have a right to report fraud where the public interest outweighs confidentiality to clients but not necessarily a duty to detect or warn about it.

They don’t have a right, they have a duty. That’s the whole damn point of having an external auditor!! Ffs man.

I see the Scottish Mail on Sunday is saying Police Scotland have seized a £110,000 luxury motorhome from Peter Murrell’s 92-year-old mother’s house in Fife. 👀

I thought that had to be a wind up until I went and checked the Mail on Sunday website, that is a very poor way to spend 100k.
