Richey Edwards
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-65461723 Apparently loneliness does as much harm as smoking 15 cigarettes a day. Unfortunately social isolation is common for some parts of the population - especially in older adults and those who live in rural areas.
StellarHibee
But does it do as much harm as smoking fellow gangstas in the hood?

Absolutely buy in to the fact that loneliness needs to be highlighted but using this analogy is a bit crass.
BFTD
Quote Lack of social connection is also linked to lower academic achievement and worse performance at work, according to a new advisory. It's quite incredible how absolutely everything has to be linked to economic productivity in an attempt to be taken seriously. As far as fags go, I presume they're making the point that everyone knows cigarettes reduce lifespan, while loneliness appears to have similar effects, yet flies under the radar. It's not a literal connection. Personally, I recommend the P&B Combo - misanthropy and screaming into the void

Loneliness and early death? It's fairly well established that loneliness has profound effects on health.

Yeah, I'd be interested to see the workings behind the claim. There may well be plenty destructive/harmful people who end up lonely as a result, and that may be where the 'link' is.

But as most have been saying there can be no comparison between such diverse things so that's why I refer to it as an analogy.
