The Compo Faces Thread

I never really got to the bottom of it. They just sent me a £12k bill. I phoned them and they apologised, and sent me a new bill for, I think, £1100 or so.

A few more phone calls and finally they realised that I wasn't their customer. Sent me a bill for £0. I said that was fine but wanted completely off their system.

In 2030 they'll probably send me another new bill. I'll call the Falkirk Herald when they do.

Remember to keep those bills to point at for the compo photo.

Another situation where a picture can explain the rationale more than a dissertation. I suspect the locals are correct.

I’ve just read the equivalent article in the Record.

The locals are definitely correct - which is surprising, as she reckons they should be “grateful”.

York fire victim (Allegedly Fraudulant auld b*****d), 76, loses insurance payout over form error.

Barry likely got pissed and fell asleep while cooking his chips.

He failed to disclose he had previously been flooded on his insurance.

That's a prime example of someone having a genuine case. The insurance company should be forced to prove why a previous flood would have any influence on whether a house could burn down.

Insurance companies are the absolute worst.

A history of flooding would make a house less likely to burn down, surely.

That story's from 2017/18 and was posted here then. The only reason they seem to have printed it again was to add her accusation that they made it up. Maybe they think that will get them off the hook with the Press Complaints Commission.

The week after Freda's story went viral, she told the Mirror she had been wrongly painted as a "racist" and insisted her comments had been "taken out of context". She claimed she never said Spanish tourists should go somewhere else, but instead only complained that the hotel didn't "cater to English people".

She said: "It's all a pack of lies. I never said the Spanish should go to another hotel, just that the hotel didn't cater to English people. It's been totally taken out of context. Now people who don't even know me are calling me racist which is just not true. I didn't slag the Spanish off at all."

If she wanted to go to a hotel that catered for English people then she should have holidayed in England. Daft old racist.

Would probably then complain "They are too many English people".

I just find it odd that they printed the whole story again 4 years later but with her denial added.

From the Sun at the time..

Freda claimed she'd asked for a hotel in Benidorm's new town on the ground floor that was close to shops.
But instead she says they were given a hotel on a hill in the old town which was "far from everything".

The pensioner, who worked as a carer and auxiliary nurse for most of her life, said she had never complained about a holiday before but said this was one was a "disaster from start to finish".

Their flights were changed with less than a week's notice, and Freda, who suffers from mobility issues, struggled to get up to the 14th floor rooms they were given.

Her companion added: "It wasn't the holiday we expected but Freda's comments were exaggerated out of all proportion.

"Freda is a lovely woman. It's upsetting and it makes me angry the way she's been treated. People have just been laughing at her.

"And now there have been threats made against her online. It's out of order. They've made a laughing stock of her."

Would insurance even cover falling asleep while the chips (and everything else) burned?
