Have to agree that anyone who thinks that the decision to let the goal stand is the worst decision in football history can't have watched that much football. It was one of those calls which wouldn't have been overturned whichever way the onfield decision had gone, if it had been disallowed there's no way it would have been reversed, for exactly the same reasons that it was given. The only contentious bit out of the three things looked at for me was whether it was a push by Joelinton or not.

One thing they should take from last night though is that if they are going to use VAR to decide if a ball is out of play or not, it might be handy to have a camera looking right along the line.

I think it’s symptomatic of the recent trend of analysing every vaguely contentious refereeing decision to the nth degree these days.

Honestly go onto any “football space” on the internet and it’s full of losers crying about every single decision for about a week after the game. There’s always been a degree of it but it’s been a million times worse the last season or two. Folk want the entire game re-refereed until there isn’t a single contentious decision. Which obviously isn’t possible besides it making the game a shite spectacle to watch.

Notable that the 3 teams who came up are currently occupying the relegation spots. Are they just shit or is it emblematic of the gap between the top flight and the rest getting bigger?

It's probably the standard arrogance from the manager giving it the old 'These players got us here so they've earned the right to play here' when the vast majority of the players have played all their career in the SkyBet, with very good reason.

Alternatively, the owners are happy to bag the Sky money, give none of it to the manager to spend, and take the L and be the big fish in the Championship the next season.

It's annoying that player's mistakes aren't analysed to a similar standard as refereeing errors. One thing overlooked last night has been how big an arse of it Raya made, he gets his positioning all wrong after the ball had gone wide, it was a decent cross back in but one a competent keeper should have been dealing with imo.

It's shaping up the same in the Championship with the 3 relegated teams all up there, barring Ipswich who probably won't sustain that over the season.

Raya has been getting called out awful, mainly due to the fact he had the audacity to take an Englishman's place.

While this is true, he’s absolutely no way an improvement.  Arteta has done this to Tierney and it makes no sense.
