ICTChris
Ben Flower, Rugby League, Wigan v St Helens 2014 Grand Final. Ben Flower, a Wigan prop, became the first player to be sent off in the Super League grand final after brutally attacking St Helens stand off Lance Hohaia. In the second minute Flower missed a pass that would have given him the opening try and exploded against Hohaia in the aftermath. Flower's first punch knocked Hohaia unconscious but what made the foul so infamous was the second punch delivered to Hohaia as he lay knocked out on the floor. Horrible stuff and Hohaia retired the next year after suffering from significant post concussion symptoms. Flower was fined and banned for six months for the offence. Benjamin Massing, Football, Cameroon v Argentina 1990 world cup. The epitome of the professional foul. Cameroon lead reigning world champions Argentina with two minuts to go when livewire forward Claudio Cannigia began a break towards the Cameroon goal. Twice defenders tried to fell Cannigia but he kept going until Massing said "f**k this shit" and absolutely annihilated him, not a care about the ball, losing his boot in the process. I like the way he faces the ref with pleading hands, maintaining his innocence and then about a second later is booting an Argentine with his socked foot. Sadly Massing died a few years ago, RIP King. Andrew Golota v Riddick Bowe, boxing, 1996. Former heavyweight champion Riddick Bowe was on the comeback trail after various promotional snafus had left him titleless. Golota was picked as a good ticket flogger to be knocked down by Bowe but he defied expectations by dominating the fight only to be disqualified for repeated low blows, which then prompted Bowe's entourage to attack Golota leading to a mass riot in Madison Squre Garden. Popular demand saw a rematch announced and six months later the men did it again - with Golota repeating his dominant showing and then repeating numerous punches to Bowe's bollocks, ending with a repeat disqualification after a low blow combination by Golota. They say you should do what you love and Andrew Golota just loves punching Riddick Bowe in the bollocks. Vontaze Burfict, NFL, Cincinnati Bengals v Pittsburgh Steelers, Wild card play-offs 2015. Burfict was one of the most notorious NFL players during his time in the league. Linebacker Burfict was capable of good play but also ran up millions of dollars in fines and salary losses (in the NFL the league can ban you and you forfeit your salary for the ban) and was suspended for a total of 22 games during his career. His most notorious foul was on Steeler Brown. In the last play of a playoff game, the Bengals lead by a point and would have won when the Steelers couldn't complete but a penalty was awarded, giving the Steelers the chance to kick a game winning field goal. A nasty, pointless foul as the game was over when he did it. Paul Daley, MMA, v Josh Koscheck, May 2010 Daley, an English knockout artist, fought Koscheck, an experienced wrestler, to determine who would get a shot at the UFC welterweight title next. Daley was unable to get his punches off as Koscheck dominated with his ground skills, clearly prevailing with a wide decision. After the final bell, Daley appraoched Koscheck to shake hands only to punch him in the face. Daley lost the fight and got binned from the UFC.

It was stupid and nasty, but there's some embellishment here... was a first and ten play with about twenty seconds to go.

BFTD
I don't know if this is a false memory, but I remember Benjamin Massing getting something of a standing ovation as he went off, and he applauded the crowd in return. You never see it on the footage online, which might just be FIFA not wanting to encourage (albeit glorious) thuggery. The great thing about that Cameroon win was that, even with only nine men on the field against the World Champions, they were still pushing Argentina back right until the end, and were far more likely to get a second than Argentina ever were to score. I doubt Caniggia's run would've come to anything anyway.

Why is he shown a yellow card afterwards, though? I presume that was the ref's way of pointing out that he was getting a straight red, but was already on a yellow? If he'd shown the yellow first, it'd have looked like he was going off for two yellows. Seems to have wiped our hero out until the Second Round, while Andre Kana-Biyick, who'd got a straight red earlier, was back for the final group game. I could be wrong; some places online say Massing got a second yellow, but surely that was a straight red, even in 1990! Maybe the ref just fucked up his cards.
