Bring Your Own Socks
We lost this game in the midfield. Despite Thistle leaving huge space early in the game our obsession with passing when a shot was on was evident again. Spong did his job very well but his one-man army routine destroyed any time he might have wanted to be creative. Thomson was involved plenty, as always, but really seems to be having some concentration/anxiety issues when pass after pass goes astray. The other guy, no. 20 - no idea what his role is. Friends tell me he had a good game against Elgin - maybe that's his level. Midfield are individually struggling and miles off being a cohesive unit. What's happened to the high-energy press evident at the league cup game? Again, Paton the only one capable of hitting the target with purpose. Outside of the pitch, two observations. The subs bench - couldn't see how any of those lads would make an impact on the game, and so it turned out. Secondly, how depressing to hear post match interviews from the first team coach and his captain both saying the third goal "killed the game". It was 57 minutes! More than a third of the game left. If you want your squad to have a strong PMA during the game, the leadership team need to make sure you show that off the pitch too.
