Ayr vs Dundee United - 26/8/23

Recommended Posts

No Chalmers for this one will be a miss for us. Will hopefully see a new midfielder in for the game and Amartey back in for McKensie. No reason why we couldn't get a result here but think it's unlikely.

Albinson

McAllister Stanger McGinty Reading

Pendlebury New Signing Smith

Amartey Rose McGeady

Dundee United have had a fairly unspectacular start to the Championship, Ayr have had less so.

This will either be a pummelling where Ayr are 3-4 goals down at half time and could be double that and we’ll score twice in the second half before Bullen speaks of the teams character, Or Ayr will win 1-0, like the Inverness game, take the lead and drag the game in to a non-event.

No Murphy, Murdoch, Dempsey or Chalmers, all players you would want in the team but will likely bypass the midfield anyway and give Bryden and the ball a concussion come 16:45

Bryden will struggle to get a concussion from the bench…

If we get a central midfielder in we should be looking okay team wise, even with all of those people out injured. As long as Amartey and McGeady both start anyway.

Albinson

McAllister  Stanger  McGinty  Reading

Pendleury  Tomlinson  Smith

Amartey  Rose  McGeady

Tomlinson has a fair bit of running in him so let Smith and Pendlebury play the deeper role and give Tomlinson some freedom to get up the pitch.  I doubt we will have another midfielder in by then.  442 won't work without Murphy or Chalmers and unsure how Smith/Pendlebury combo would fair.  Only other 3 midfield option is McAllister which I can't see happening.

Third league game of the season and we are already plagued with injuries.  If we play Grimshaw at RB we will have a very weakened midfield, if we play Freeman at RB I can see Ayr running riot down their left.

If I was the Dundee United manager and those were my choices I'd be playing Grimshaw at right back given Ayr United's starting central midfielders are both injured.

Depending how things go in the next few weeks you might get the chance…

We are pretty decimated injury wise so I imagine you will pick up a win this weekend. If we play a midfield five, we have our first choice four of them injured or ineligible to play so Goodwin should be okay for another week.

I'll get on the phone to Jim.

Got a pair of boots, was a very solid right back before I knackered my knee and my late 30s kicked in. Could still do a job blootering f**k out of anyone that came within 3 feet of me though. Did have a good cross back in the day but f**k going over the half way line to have to track back.

Could even double as the Lee Wilkie immobile Centre Forward.

We can only hope that luck is with us as it's certainly not been with our midfield so far.  Will be nice to have an away support to shout at while they point and laugh at our north terrace diggers.  There's a thought - not had many construction porn pics of late.

If we play Freeman at RB we deserve everything coming.

He's injured.

Looking forward to visiting Hawkhill BC again.

Well, it's true that he missed the last game due to injury and that was the 2nd game so, yes.

Jesus, he's still as injury prone then.

Fantastic player who could play in the premiership but i think his injury record could deny him that opportunity sadly

With Freeman, Sibbald and Docherty all out for Saturday then you’d expect Grimshaw and Meekison to take 2 of the 3 positions, just a question of Grimshaw at RB or centre mid.  So then looking at Denham or Bisland at RB OR Mochrie, Glass or Moore in centre mid….

Unless we completely change our formation?

I’d far rather we shuffled the pack and stuck with the existing formation.
