1. Partick Thistle
2. Raith Rovers
3. Ayr United
4. Airdrieonians
5. Livingston
6. Falkirk
7. Queen’s Park
8. Greenock Morton
9. Dunfermline Athletic
10. Hamilton Accies

Very hard to call it this year. Very much groups of 2/4/4 for me but could easily see one of the top two and Queen’s Park making it into the middle group.

Fancy Thistle over Raith, mostly because of their attack. Raith have strengthened defensively but I’m unconvinced by their forward options and still think they lack pace going forward. Thistle’s lack of a reliable keeper and right back would be a concern right enough.

Keep switching the order of 3rd to 6th, could see those teams being pretty tightly packed. Still not fully sold on Ayr, some impressive recruitment but still to see how it all fits together over a full season, as Brown has had some interesting lineups so far in the cup. I’m pretty positive about the new look Airdrie team, Ben Wilson will make a huge difference if he can stay fit, though it wouldn’t shock me if we fall just short. I think Falkirk will start strongly but a small squad might see them just miss out over the full season. Hard to know what to make of Livingston, I think they’ll be fairly solid but lacking something going forward.

Losing Paton is a huge blow but there’s still the basis of a reasonable team at Queen’s Park, even if there is no depth. I think Morton have the worst team in the league, Imrie’s gone way too far in the other direction this summer and lost what made that Morton team work, but he’s a good manager and will figure something out this season. Dunfermline’s squad doesn’t look anywhere near ready to compete this season but I feel like they’ll panic sign a few players in January and do just enough to avoid 10th. I’m not as convinced by Accies recruitment as some and the news yesterday doesn’t really bode well for a positive season.

Falkirk will be nowhere near it this year I’m afraid. This season will be about them stabilising and kicking on next season. They’ll win a good few games but will finish 7th at best.

A credible title challenge most seasons will need at least 65 points. Whilst our squad depth in other positions is probably the best in the division, we still have a glaring hole at right back and are banking on an untested loan keeper - until those issues are resolved, I don't think we can say we have an improved starting XI from last season that you'd expect to put an extra 10 points on the board.

A lot depends on the next few weeks, but as it stands I'd still have Livi and Raith above us.

1.) Livingston

2.) Raith

3.) Thistle

4.) Airdrie

5.) Falkirk

6.) Ayr

7.) Morton

8.) Dunfermline

9.) Queens Park

10.) Hamilton
