The lease thing came out of nowhere, no idea what conditions are attached to it, or if they have to pay. Maybe the council just got fed up being blamed for their shitty pitch and said OK, it's yours, sort it if you can.
welshbairn
Rumours that Fort have England based players coming up and staying in a caravan before games. If true that's some dedication, midweek games could be tricky. By all accounts they look more competitive this season, despite the pumping they got off Brora yesterday. The Mantis
Don't think this was well publicised at all. Quite interesting/slightly cringeworthy wee series of six 2-minute films produced by the SFA for Euro 2020 in a series "The Land of Football". Episode 4 is about Fort and there's a wee photo of Iceland by yours truly, getting compared to Claggan... https://euro2020.scottishfa.co.uk/national-tour/episode-4-fort-william/ Edited August 25, 2021 by The Mantis

That's an excellent wee two part series. It could have dug a little deeper - like who really benefits from tourism in Scotland? Two-thirds of hospitality workers earn less than the living wage, while half of those tartan tat shops on the Royal Mile are owned by two guys. But for what it was it was very good, and it showed the rise, fall and rise of Aviemore very well. I think I preferred it when it was shite, it's hoaching now. It occurred to me while watching - how many people that work in tourism and hospitality are free from, say noon to 9pm on a Saturday? It's not a career for a footballer.

Jimmy Shaker
By some margin the worst of some very bad shouts from that lot. Especially when you consider the likes of grounds mentioned below... http://twitter.com/JoaquimCampa/status/1411346406497992708 Edited September 2, 2021 by Jimmy Shaker
bluearmyfaction
^ some of those don't look like football pitches - and the one labelled in Gibraltar is in La Linea. The ground in Gib is much more "British" with roofs over the stands. And is called Victoria Park, just to confused lost Stokies (or sailors from Irvine). The ground in La Linea was a present from Franco, because when he shut the border in the sixties, unemployment there increased about fourfold; none of the locals could do their cross-border commute. He promised international football there, which turned out to be a friendly against Finland.
vikingTON
If only "enthusiastically promoting his beloved football club" - talking complete and utter horseshit in an official capacity like the attention-seeking outfit they are - was worth points in a competitive league system. The sooner that they're in the NCL competing with Loch Ness for each tiny bubble of media oxygen at that level, the better. If the Fort were so "beloved" by the denizens of the town, they wouldn't be in this situation. The whole community is apathetic about them. Sad as it is, their time has come and a load of hipster social media followers who've never set foot in the place aren't going to solve the problem.

Well, at least, some "denizens of the town" have shown that, despite the huge problems at the club, they are willing, for now, to have a go at bringing league matches back to Fort William. The club had been held back by the Council not completing the new lease (according to previous posts here) so the gates couldn't even be closed to keep out the bike riders etc. With the Lease now in place that issue can be controlled , hopefully ! They may be headed down to the NCL but they may still have a club left to play at that level and they may retain their club licence, SFA Cup place, etc. Good luck to them.
TheScarf
Everyone in Fort plays shinty and supports Rangers. The chance of them going to watch Fort William is zero.
Jimmy Shaker
In defence of the population, I think that's everyone in Fort William had a shot on the committee now. IIRC, the new secretary is onto her second shift in the job.

That was the message from Fort William Football Club’s recent annual general meeting, which saw a good turnout. The existing board stood down and new office-bearers were elected. The new chairman is Oliver Stephen, with vice chairman John Trew, secretary Marie McMillan and treasurer Andy Elder, plus several other notable members joining the committee. Mr Stephen told the Lochaber Times: ‘It was brilliant to see so many willing people there who all have the same desire to see the only football club in the town succeed.’ Mr Stephen commented the club had one distinct hurdle in its way at the moment, the pitch, which had been highlighted as such a cause for concern that the Highland League management committee recently voted to have Fort William play all of their games in the 2021-22 season away from Claggan Park. Mr Stephen added: ‘Thankfully, after an outpouring on social media and a call to arms, a massive amount of work has been carried out by members of the committee and the professional services of Gavin Irons – grass pitch specialist – were instructed. ‘The park has never looked so good and we are really looking forward to working with all of the other clubs in the Highland League to help reverse the decision that was made. ‘It means the world to Fort William and its locals to see games back at the foot of Ben Nevis, quite possibly one of the most iconic footballing locations in the world.’ Any coincidence that this statement came out around the same time as they announced that they still couldn't field a team to play a rearranged game against Brechin today ? They maybe think their chances might increase by playing Brechin at Claggan in midweek closer to winter rather than a traditional Saturday .........................Or is that just me being cynical ? -

You're overthinking it I suspect, much closer to winter and they won't be hosting anyone anyway, unless they do miracles to the drainage.

Sherrif John Bunnell
The pitch is looking fairly decent in this video. Although it helps that it's barely rained for about a month. https://fb.watch/7RY3b9NjrY/
