House footwear habits and etiquette

Slippers for keeping your feet warm, being able to nip out to the bins, nip into the garage for a beer out the fridge and so on… not for protection from a manky floor. Viva la slipper.

Slippers for wandering round the house (lots of wooden floors, not as warm as I would like), got crocs at the back and front doors for popping outside, taking bins out etc.

Always kick off my trainers when I get in the front door.

I've got five in my front garden and eight in the back.

Reminds me of a short film I saw many moons ago.

I’ve got a pair of Ugg slippers (no sniggering at the back) and they’re both comfy and sturdy. Great thick sole, quality stitching and warm interior.

Outside footwear is taken off at the door.

As for being rude for answering the front door in anything but shoes: what sort of deviant thinks like that?

Slippers for me, though finding any bigger than a size 12 is a challenge.

This sounds like an opening gambit by Big Keith.

BK: "Went shopping for slippers at the weekend. <sighs> None of the shops round here stock anything bigger than a size 12!"

Tim (sympathetically): "That's very inconvenient."

BK: "Not for me. I take a 10."

Barefoot or Crocs.

Fur lined Crocs in the winter when my feet get cold.

Used to do barefoot, but now, despite despising Crocs, I have to wear them. Neuropathy means I have to protect my feet since I can’t feel things and those f**king plasticky rubber pieces of shite are the best choice.

Great idea for a thread to weed out all the Croc wearing OFTW.

Fair enough, but I’d rather be that than suffering from gangrene.

I reckon you've made the wrong call there.

I respect your decision, but personally prefer to avoid the odour associated with my feet rotting off. I did ask the doc if I could lop them off and get some of those cool, springy carbon fibre “blades”, but they want a fortune for them! Blooming insurance.
