Sergeant Wilson
I always slide tackle at fives (outdoors obvs) 100% commitment at all times. I'm also a very good tackler and very rarely mistime it or injure someone, that I don't mean to anyway. Studs too, it'd be weird not to Play every game like its the World Cup Final, I like it. Do you play like that to make up for shortcomings elsewhere?
KnightswoodBear
The 80s audiophile in me is screaming right now. Careful. You'll have a mob of semi literate Mumsnetters with banners outside your house.

JamboMikey
Always assumed that no slide tackles at 5s is a given...
heedthebaa
Only complete and utter fannies slide in at 5's. Most that do, have a massive chip on their shoulders, due to the fact they're not good enough to play 11 a side
jamamafegan
When I was in school I used to regularly slide tackle when we played football (not fives fyi). It was my signature move, known as "the motherfucker." It's all I was known for on the field because I was, and still am, really shit at football. People got angry for being on the recieving end but for everybody else it was a joy to behold. I think I retired it after I was (quite rightly) started on after I did it once. Good times.
parsforlife
Wait there's people who don't slide at fives? Fair enough if it's part of training for an 11s team but otherwise surely to f**k you need to play committed? it's not like there's any tackles that are done at speed. Fair enough it's a bit of fun and doing things that you'd never do in a real game( mazy keeper runs ftw) is enjoyable but I don't see the point in doing any sport if your not committed to win. Also anyone who doesn't love a well timed slide tackle shouldn't be involved in football.
BFTD
Careful. You'll have a mob of semi literate Mumsnetters with banners outside your house. Having seen our neighbours, the only thing missing is the banners. I think he's on the Register anyway mate..... Not yet, to my knowledge, but I'll know who to blame when it happens. *shakes fist*

JamboMikey
Not really about not being committed. Folk slide tackling each other just really doesn't fit into the dynamics of 5s. It's a bit like folk who are always playing big raking balls up the other end of the pitch. Getting wired into folk is great at 11s but it's just not suited to the style of five a sides. AberdeenBud
Yeah if you want to slide folk go and play 11's. As said it's normally inadequates who aren't good enough for this that run around like headless chickens at 5's hitting anything that moves.
sjc
You can't beat a good studs up, over the ball challenge in a friendly kickabout let alone an organised 5's/11's.

I remember seeing a guy with a massive rucksack on his back turning quickly and knocking a woman off her feet at a London tube station.....did make me chuckle at the time but what if it had knocked her onto the tracks?!
