They were what, 5 out at lunch? England had all afternoon to knock the middle order and tail down, and they couldn't do it. The declaration was too late but even still, they should be winning easily from that position.

Nearly 2 and a half years since England last won a test match outside England now.

So either the pitch was a dud and England's top order failed miserably twice showing how poor they are, or the bowling attack is now utter popgun. Or both.

Didn't see any but assumed once Chanders was out that was it all over, WI lower orders generally aren't noted for their concentration, but that's 2 Tests last series in the Caribbean and one so far they've batted out draws.

I'd quite like the WI to do well here though, Graves calling them "mediocre" isn't quite Tony Greig standards- in fact it's accurate- the point is someone in that position shouldn't be saying it, so it would be good if they stuck it right up him.

And as for Jimmy's record. I remember him as the kid with the golden arm, who just took wickets, then the wilderness years where it seamed he had been yet another over hyped duffer.

Hats off to him for finding a way past the talent destroying English coaching system to become such an incredible exponent of English medium fast swing.

Some effort by the windies here, even if it is against a slightly powderpuff, one dimensional attack.

Conservative captaincy and batting has cost England time that would have been appreciated today.

Agree with the first part but not the second. They had more than enough time to bowl them out, that was the longest innings of the match, and it's very rare for the 4th innings of the game to hold that distinction. Yet again Cook wasn't aggressive enough when they had the Windies on the ropes with 5 down and plenty of time left.

That shot summed up how one day stuff is killing test cricket.

Atherton played all day to get england 200 for 3 4 5 in a day and was glue. Everyone wants a swashbuckler to open now.

OK this time windies survived but only coz england are not much better.

Only the last 50 overs did it get to be the true test contest. Other than that modern test cricket showed how it is about who's luck runs out soonest.

When it works they are entertaining but when it doesnt they want 4 day tests. Burger King and McDonalds sport.

Give me 5 days of chess with nothing asked nothing given away all day long.

Listening to him on 5live just now, he made a comment that he had changed his action and suffered a lot of injuries, he then changed it back to his natural action in his mid twenties and has been pretty much injury free since.

He always come across as a very humble guy, and as Mark Chapman has said during it Jimmy actually starts blushing whenever you start talking about his individual achievements.

That was a brilliant bit of bowling by Anderson. I love seeing him bowl in these conditions. West Indies 2/1 and having a hell of a time getting the ball off the track.

Amazing start from him, looks like the weight of breaking the record has been lifted from his shoulders, terrific first 6 overs. 4 maidens and a wicket. Edited by peasy23

Windies currently 121-4 just after tea, pitch looks utterly lifeless.

The Jimmy Anderson special that was on 5live last night is available to download as a podcast, well worth a listen if you can spare an hour. Mark Chapman started a series of interviews with him 2 years ago and the agreement was they would only be aired if Jimmy broke Botham's record.
