Weather might interrupt things. On radio they said rain now forecast to start just after the tea break.

Just checked the weather for Perth, -2 atm and lots of rain. They might be safe on that forecast.

Lest we forget, England won the last Ashes in England fairly handily.  Almost no team wins in India.  Test series are so lopsided in favour of the home side, you have to question how the test world series (or whatever they are going to call it) is going to work.

I have a certain amount of sympathy for Anderson and Broad.   The accusation they are not so effective outside England is true for Starc outside Australia too.

England are what they are: a top side in English conditions, and a mediocre side in everything else.  They also seem incredibly fragile mentally - hence the sledging against them.  It's all very well being nice and polite, but on the pitch you need to be a complete dick in cricket.  Glenn McGrath being the obvious example of a guy who was a mean, moody, nasty piece of work on the field, and apparently a complete gent off it.  To that end, Jason Gillespie should have been their head coach when he applied.

For the second time in one post, to be fair to the English coaches, Finn's action had to be remodeled after a rule change.  He couldn't keep hitting the stumps at the bowler's end and/or falling over because that now costs runs, rather than the dead ball fiasco it was for a while.   Liam Plunkett, Mark Wood and this big lumbering Overton chap will eventually have to step up to the mark.

Malan and Bairstow will have to repeat what they did in the first innings. Vince was very unlucky, that was a snorter of a ball from Starc that got him out, not a lot he could do with the amount that one moved off the pitch. Can't make my mind up if Root is just having a dip in form, or he is struggling with the weight of the captaincy.

Malan and Bairstow currently have the second and third most runs in the series. Ok a few more innings than some of the Australians but averaging 60 and 40 for the series while the next highest average is 32. The only two bats man who have been even remotely good enough.

Overton has played through pain this match so gets a pass but other than that the bowling has been pedestrian and then some. Only Anderton has managed double figures in wickets in 3 matches. 12 at 25. A decent return for a change bowler not an opener. The others, beak.

If this pair hang (Malan and Woaks) around enough to get 50 more then the score board starts getting interesting but its far more likely that one will be out before I hit "Submit Reply" than them hang around for maybe 20 overs and eek out 50 runs.
