Joe Root certainly not caring about cricket this week as he is playing in the Dunhill Links, partnering former Ryder Cup player Ross Fisher.

Warwickshire in total control of the Bob Willis Trophy final, currently 339-2 and lead Lancs by 261. Rob Yates hit his 5th red ball century of the season.

The IPL is mildly diverting. Been some good games. It's just not the same in a mostly empty stadium in the middle east though. Can anyone answer me this. Why does every team have an array of beautiful Indian princesses cheering them on in the rich seats. They can't all be the owners, can they? I don't think they are the WAG's either.  Anyone?

Reports that the England players families who travel to Australia for the Ashes series will be able to do their quarantine at a resort in the Yarra Valley. ECB still concerned that matches could be scrubbed at short notice after the Shield match that was abandoned last week due to 4 Covid cases in the state that had no connection to the match. Decision should be made by the end of the week.

FYI it was the Queensland v Tasmania Shield match in Brisbane that was called off last week due to an outbreak in Brisbane that also put the NRL Grand Final at risk. The match has been rescheduled for 7-10 October in Adelaide.

Sam Curran out of the T20 world cup with a back injury and his brother Tom takes his place in the squad. Reece Topley takes over from him as travelling reserve.

f**k sake.

Tom Curran is an utter imposter at international level. England should have pulled Dawson in to the 15 and addressed the seam/swing imbalance, imo.

Both of Scotlands T20 matches, against Oman and PNG, are on being shown on Free Sports on Friday and Saturday.

Very early start on the Saturday but at least they won’t have to be watched on that awful ICC stream.

And on that note, a superb chase against Ireland earlier today. Great to see some fringe guys get a shot, with Chris Greaves performing well with the ball and Craig Wallace having a decent knock with the bat. Munsey and Leask were once again the stars of the show, though. Great to see them in such good form.

Didn’t even know we played today. The ICC app hasn’t even bothered to mention it.

Yes, I noticed it wasn't showing on Cricinfo either.

A big news day for England, today.

Stokes is likely to miss the ashes after having had to have a second operation on his injured finger. Whether he'd have been available anyway is, of course, unknown. A big miss, nonetheless.

On the administrative front, ECB chairman Ian Watmore has resigned. After the horrid attitude on show in cancelling the Pakistan tour, I struggle to muster any other comment than good riddance.

Didn't expect Stokes to be playing tbh, but with the opening test only 8 or 9 weeks away then he almost certainly won't be available for the start. Even if he was available, what condition and form is he likely to be in not having played for months?

Not any worse than the rest of them, tbf. Even a half fit Stokes lifts the side, imo.

Well, no Stokes for the ashes. Looking at that England squad hard to see anything other than a whitewash. The batting has very obvious and well publicised issues and that bowling cohort doesn't have anything bar wood to really scare the Aussies and he's made of chocolate.

Another good win for Scotland today

Greaves and Watt with 4 wickets each. Greaves is surely playing himself in to a spot in the XI with his performances in the warm ups this week. Wouldn't be shocked to see Tahir miss out, giving us 3 different types of spin in the side.

England lions squad which will be in Australia at the same time as the Ashes are going on. 4 players with test experience in Sibley, Foakes, Bracey and Crane, while Liam Livingstone is left out. You would think any gaps that open up in the Ashes squad through injury or Covid will be filled from here.7869e0f3b4f9eebb214d7dce2b839005.jpg
