I tried the same thing at The Oval in Belfast where it’s only about 2 km to City Airport and they come in really low. They go longways up the park but you don’t get much warning. Thought I had a few pics but can’t find any.
Le Tout P'ti FC
Just walked for three hours around Stirling (Cambuskenneth Abbey; Old Bridge; Gowan Hill; Castle; Pint), only to arrive at Forthbank to make the heinous discovery that there is no catering at this Lowland League (Tier 5) tie between Students and Belters. I’m starving and somewhat thirsty. Also confounded that I can turn up at somewhere like Forth Wanderers or Saltcoats Victoria and get fed, but this ground, in one of Scotland’s eight cities, can’t muster a simple pie and bovril combination. Even watching the footballing Rolls Royce that is Alan Horne hasn’t lifted my mood. It might have been this kind of Hanger that set William Wallace off all those years ago. EDIT - as I hit “post” on that Alan Horne went off injured after 16’ of turgid football. The Rolls Royce is being taken to the garage. That’s annoying. The Mantis
Not random, but fancied getting a couple of aerial shots yesterday at Airdrie v ICT. High point of my day obviously...
The Mantis
Not very exciting posting about ammies games but usually good games to watch. Thursday night in the LEAFA Sunday Morning Premier, and the last set of midweek fixtures before winter. Pentland Athletic 4 Lochend AFC 4 at the Glencorse Centre in Auchendinny. Pentland seemed to have won it with a great free kick in stoppage time from man of many clubs including Raith, Dundee and East Fife, Craig O'Reilly but Lochend came back and equalised. In keeping with the Colinton Tunnel pic in my last ammies report, here's an old selfie from the tunnel at Auchendinny

The Mantis
Tuesday. Lowland League. Edinburgh Uni 1 Berwick Rangers 3. Nice night to be out and a decent moon... The Uni scored after about 30 seconds and led at the break. The second half had barely begun when their trialist defender was red-carded for a dogso and Liam Buchanan scored from the spot, going on to complete his hat trick. Remember being there with Whitehill against the Binos in the Scottish. Got the full treatment, boardroom, bevvy etc. Met the late Peter McKenzie, a real gent. But playing the Uni in the LL, they only got a wee room at the front and the boardroom was out of bounds. They only had 2 guys as committee and somebody had made up a few pieces. A similar situation at the Recs when Broomhill were using it.
Sherrif John Bunnell
I was at Barnet vs Ebbsfleet in the Vauxhall Conference today. The standard of football was pretty poor, but the result was a very entertaining 3-2 win for Barnet. Killie legend Nicke Kabamba with at hattrick. Their stadium is a modern half built Broadwood-esque type place.
Andy groundhopper
Hellenic Lge local derby today Shortwood v Stonehouse (Nailsworth nr Stroud) clubs 6 miles apart. £6 with online prog. 1-0 then 'Wood see pen saved. 1-1 ft. Stonehouse better 2nd half, not many clear chances at both ends. Decent stuff albeit up in the air quite a bit, fair result in the end. DoingThe42
Darlington 2-2 South Shields, National League North, 28/08/2023. A smashing game at Darlington on my first visit to their (reasonably) handsome town. South Shields looked much the better side for long spells, and I reckon are a significantly better side, but Darlo played well over the ninety and were only denied a come-from-behind win by South Shield's last-minute penalty. South Shield's opener looked like it may well have been handball, which got the atmosphere going with the home crowd enraged. Just over 2,000 present, two penalties, four goals. A good Bank Holiday day out. As with my last National League North day out, at Blyth v Hereford, this one also had a Clyde connection; Cameron Salkeld introduced as a late Darlo sub.

Eednud
Australia Cup Round of 16 at TK Shutter Reserve, Klemzig (Adelaide). Metro Stars 1 Inter Lions 0, winning goal scored in 92nd min. Metro Stars did the South Australian league and cup double this season. Their origin is Calabrian/Sicilian, red and yellow being the colours of the Sicilian flag. Loads of fans wearing club scarves or beanies and a lot, especially kids, in club shirts. Wasn’t a great game but fantastic headed goal for the very late winner. Some trivia. Klemzig was the first place where German immigrants settled in Australia in 1838. Named after Klemzig in what was then Prussia and now Klępsk in western Poland. During WW1 it was renamed Gaza but changed back to original name in 1935. The OG Hotel in Klemzig is/was the pub with the shortest name in Australia.
