Scotland (245/2) v Italy (90 ao), Scotland win by 155 runs

First time I post something other than football on here, but I've been following cricket for a long time. When I lived in England I was a member of Derbyshire CCC. As both sides had Derbyshire players and I wanted to attend a game in this tournament (ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier Europe) anyway, I picked this game as the Dutch aren't taking part (already qualified).

Thankfully it stayed dry, lovely old main building at The Grange. Although I expected Scotland to win, I didn't expect it to be with this margin. Italy ran Ireland close & won more convincingly against Jersey than Scotland did. The Scottish batters were on fire though, especially Oli Hairs who was 126 not out as opening batsman. Brandon McMullen was close to a century himself, but he got out in the 19th over for 96. The high target resulted in Italy having to take risks, which they did. Those risks didn't pay off as wickets started falling pretty quickly, also due to the excellent bowling from Scotland. Convincing win by Scotland.

Crossgates Primrose 5-0 Dunfermline Athletic XI Colts B Reserves Under 20s etc

Jaunt through to Fife to the magnificently named Humbug Park Crossgates for the Rose against Dunfermline under 14s looking at the faces on show for the Pars.

Shame it's not 2015 or we may have seen Ben Richards-Everton on show (the mint puns get worse). One (whitening) blast from the past was Steve Anderson of St Johnstone fame. He's been playing for longer than most of the Dunfermline team have been alive.

Unfortunately for the Pars fans out there I don't think the next Barry Nicholson was on show. A very easy win for the Rose tonight. A first half spent peppering the away goal and are rewarded with a spear of a header from a corner and a brilliant individual goal. Two more excellent goals just after half time make it very comfortable. The referee was no scrooge and let the game flow with some great advantages. Really impressed with Crossgates. They'll be looking to improve on their 8th place in the East Premier last year and the evidence tonight says they will.

Humbug Park is basic and no cover means no licence. Worth coming though. Plenty room for kids to play and grass verges for other kids to go mental on. Oh aye, and a B team for beat so all good.

Crossgates Primrose 5-0 Dunfermline (as above)

Nice to see a Scottish Cup winning legend in action (and scoring) last night. Decent wee ground but it’d be a different story had the rain come on.

Lesser Hampden for Queen's Park V Elgin City. 5-0 Spiders. Attendance 676.

Ticket £12

No programmes but managed to nab a team sheet.

Second time watching Elgin in three days and you have to feel for them as they were drawn in a very difficult group. This match was very one sided, yes. But also Elgin didn't help themselves as most of the goals in both games were conceded in a similar fashion. And they gave the ball away cheaply constantly.

The first goal came on 7 minutes after good work on the wing found Ruari Paton unmarked in the box where he tapped in an easy goal. Queen's had the ball in the net again two minutes later but this was disallowed for a push I think?!

Queen's Park continued to dominate with with Elgin surviving by the skin of their teeth on more than one occasion. The second goal came on 33 minutes when Paton rose at the back post from a corner to head home, a carbon copy of QOS's second on Saturday. 2-0 at half time and Elgin were probably relieved it was only two!

The third came on 54 minutes when Queen's Park playing some nice football found Paton in the box where he showed quick and nimble feet to find space and claim his hatrick.

On the hour mark Jamieson of Elgin was injured as he fell awkwardly after a challenge from Tizzard. The lad suffered a shoulder injury and was taken off immediately. Hopefully it's not two serious.

The fourth came on 68 minutes when Paton found himself unmarked in the six yard box to head home another corner.

The fifth and last goal came as before with Elgin unable to defend a corner as Centre half Fox again unmarked at the back post headed home.

A well deserved win for Queen's Park. Elgin will be glad to get the league cup out of the way and play some League two sides. But they do need to work on defensive organisation.

Queen's Park look decent and will be there or there abouts again.

As for Lesser Hampden. The new stand looks good if not too small for Championship Football. No wonder they will be back at Hampden Park next season.

Queen's Park 5-0 Elgin City, League Cup, 25/07/23

Queen's Park are really starting to annoy me. With all their fucking about last season making my 42 more complicated than it had to be, now a temporary residence at Lesser forcing me (due to my sense of completeness) to come and see them play here. It's shite, it's been well documented that it's shite, and QP should be embarrassed by it. Three quid for a coffee? f**k off. I've gone from having, like most people, I imagine, a fairly positive view of Queen's Park to starting to feel a bit of a dislike for them. It's just this constant chipping away.

Still, quite enjoyed watching this one. Four goals for Paton in what was a pretty one-sided affair.

Queen's Park fans all look like they listen to (or are perhaps even in) Crowded House.

Kirriemuir Thistle 2-6 Dundee East Craigie

Really enjoyable game and well worth the £6 admission. Kirrie controlled the opening 15 minutes and deservedly went 1-0 up thanks to an own goal. East Craigie got back level 7 minutes later and the game was pretty even from then until half time. Craigie scored twice in 8 minutes at the start of the second half and were quite happy to hit on the break from that point - which they did to great effect. Bit of a nuts final 10 minutes with 4 goals being scored making for pretty grim reading from a Kirriemuir perspective.

Edinburgh City 1-3 Ross County. Comfortable win for County at worst ground in league. City’s goal was a decent strike but they rarely troubled County. Not a huge crowd (400 odd) but queues to get in. Stood behind goal and you were miles from action. Just not fit for league football. No programme either which was disappointing.

I raise my eyebrows slightly as the Programme Editor and our team member missed the pub quiz on Sunday because he had "to finish the programme for Wednesday as it was going to be a print edition". Perhaps something came up. The programme is quite often a one man effort so I can't condemn the non-availability of it.

We won the quiz anyway.

Another one for Edinburgh City V Ross County.

My first visit to the New Meadowbank. And I have to admit Though not great. I actually thought the new stand wasn't as bad for viewing the match as I expected it to be.

Ross County well deserved winners. Edinburgh Coty though they have had a poor start to the season played well enough last night to suggest they'll be fine this year.

I've messaged the club asking if I could purchase a printed copy of the programme. I'm happy to pay for these as though there's digital copy. They put a lot effort in putting one together I wouldd rather pay than receive it for free.

Just to add that you can't see much from the bottom row of seats - nice barrier in your eyeline. Maybe a long terrace with seats above, would have been better. As per programmes, IF you find it loss making, just don't print so many 😄  Biggest joke v Kelty was 2 or 3 youngsters stood on far side, causing no harm - in went the militia to earn their money, pathetic. Is the stadium planner on the dole yet ?

Still the directors have looked after themselves - it's like a royal box.  Wouldn't be out of place at the tennis or Braemar.

Stirling Uni 0 Cumbernauld Colts 3.

A Wednesday trip to Forthbank and not a bad crowd. Uni didn't look a patch on last year's side although perhaps this team won't be the first choice.

Cumbernauld played some neat stuff and hat trick hero Billy Mortimer caught the eye

Uni don't do catering but there's a cafe in the Sports Centre. Also the lights in the Gents weren't working bringing flashbacks of the old, dark and dingy bogs under the Stark's Park main stand...
