Going back to the forties part of the reason the neighbouring states invaded was as a result of the Deir Yassin massacre

And you go back to the 30’s and the Jewish population around there was being killed, and they fortified rather than retaliated…so there is been tit for tat there for centuries.

6 year old Palestinian-American boy stabbed to death by a 71 year old man in USA. The murderer was enraged after consuming media coverage of events in Israel. His name and his being from Illinois suggest Polish catholic heritage.

Israel UK ambassador on R4 just now sounding completely unhinged.

When challenged on Israel targeting southern Gaza and civilians, she basically said "ask Hamas" and abdicated any Israeli responsibility.

This, of course gives Hamas the justification they need.

Iran must be delighted, they can now tick the box that says "put any peace process on the back burner for another generation ".

Even Melanie Phillips finds her too right wing..

Rumours of a "deal" to open the border into Egypt coupled with the Israelis telling the population of Gaza to move south ie towards that border must bring into sharp focus the end of a Palestinian state. You can see why Hamas would be advising the population not to head south as the opening of that border to refugees (if that is the "deal" being talked about) would see the vast majority of the population of Gaza become refugees in Egypt with the prospect of never returning. Israel then rolls into Gaza to flatten it in preparation of it becoming integrated into Israel.

As already said, this is now...

and there is no equivalence between the oppressed and the oppressors.

Hard to see Egypt going for that as I really doubt any country that has cheered on Israel will be interested in taking a share of the refugees.

What would it take for the UN to put a peacekeeping force as a buffer to protect Gaza being invaded? They could also provide humanitarian aid.

Apart from a miracle.

Pretty much needs the 5 permanent members of the security council to want to end the conflict.

Can't see Israel seeking it but perhaps the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank could try to influence the chair of the security council, Brazil and the UAE who are on the council until December to try and propose it to the other members.

There's 10,000 UN peacekeepers on the border between Lebanon & Israel. Apparently Hesbollah won't let them take up position. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Nations_Interim_Force_in_Lebanon#:~:text=The United Nations Interim Force,426%2C to confirm Israeli withdrawal

If you read that article closely Phillips main criticism of Hotovely seems to be that she does not fully appreciate the abhorrent (to Phillips) views of Israel held by many in the UK, and is thus incapable of representing the Israeli Government.

It's not that she is too right wing (no such thing exists for Phillips), it's that she's a failure in her appointed role.

The ones oppressed in part because their leaders rejected the Oslo Accords? There’s blame all over, regardless of where you look.

I’d imagine any opening would be limited. Food convoys in and probably only sick and injured in transit to elsewhere.

Can’t imagine Egypt is going to let even tens of thousands into Sinai.
