Israel And The Palestinians (now with added Iran/Lebanon)

There's been an exchange of fire between Egyptian and Israeli soldiers at the Rafah crossing, with an Egyptian soldier being killed. Unclear who fired first, but this will definitely calm things down.

Israel has become everything I have always felt the Jewish people needed to be supported against. A disgusting Extremist Regime that exists to bring misery & genocide against other people based on nothing else than Intolerance. Hamas are Terrorist Scum but two wrongs will never make a right & the Israeli Leaders & the IDF are using them as an excuse for Ethnic Cleansing in plain view of the world.

I always leaned towards Israel - within reason - but their actions these last few years have been beyond the pale.

As you say, two wrongs don't make a right, but it is an absolutely horrific situation.

Our government should hang its head in shame.

It definitely won't be Israel's fault.

Piers Morgan tweeting some Zionist making the correct point that Britain didn’t bomb Belfast when the IRA were attacking England, the Zionists replying “but Hamas are much worse than the IRA”. Ignoring that it’s not the dead civilians fault in either case, maybe asks yourself why Hamas are so bad? Maybe it’s got something to do with you attacking them for decades?

Piers Morgan should be banged up in jail for the airtime he continues to give to the likes of Mark Regev and Douglas Murray to spout their bigotry in the face of the recent atrocities.

And that's before we even consider the frankly atrocious hear no evil, see no evil stance from both Cameron and Biden.

I notice that the unhinged bellend appointed to the position of Israeli Ambassador to the UK has been absent from any media appearances recently.

Hamas actions that caused this latest conflict cannot be excused but it can be explained.  Israel have been murdering Palestinians for years, herding them in prison like conditions and defying all international rulings on building new settlements in the West Bank and the west has done nothing but make token protests.

The latest atrocities are unparalleled but this is a snapshot of comparative deaths and injuries in some of the years leading up to the latest conflict.  It’s easy to see why there is such resentment on the Palestinian side and why many would see armed opposition as a just response.

Meh, no Celtic fan option. They've been pro-Hamas long before it was fashionable.

Now are The Rangers fans pro-Israeli because Celtic fans are pro-Hamas or is it the other way around?

Oh gawd.  Look, we have enough bother in Scotland between folk who claim a love for one of two sects of one particular religion. Let's not import more affiliations with another two sets of "beliefs". There's only so much nonsense folk can put up with.

"Aye, but are you a Catholic Jew or a Protestant Jew" used to be a joke, let's not make it part of everyday life FFS!

It's clear that no such thing as a rules based international order actually exists

Something that's deeply concerned me over the last few years is the UK's evident mindset of "rules are there to be followed, unless they become an inconvenience, in which case we'll try to change the rules".  It's rife in every facet of politics just now.

"The former head of the Mossad, Israel’s foreign intelligence agency, allegedly threatened a chief prosecutor of the international criminal court in a series of secret meetings in which he tried to pressure her into abandoning a war crimes investigation, the Guardian can reveal.

Yossi Cohen’s covert contacts with the ICC’s then prosecutor, Fatou Bensouda, took place in the years leading up to her decision to open a formal investigation into alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in occupied Palestinian territories."

Watched C4 Dispatches last night 'Kill Zone : Inside Gaza'.  Absolutely heartbreaking.

It's called flexibility. These laws are living, breathing statutes that can be changed as situations develop.

Or you realise you fucked it up.

Presumably the response would be, "if we were serious, she'd be dead already".

... as evidenced by the Owen Paterson affair. Tory MP caught out by repeatedly breaking the rules on lobbying, so the natural response was... to want to change the rules. 😳

Its fascinating to me that they opened an investigation in 2021 as we all know the peace loving state of Israel was just eating grapes and making art between 14 May 1948 and 06 October 2023.

I'm sure you can appreciate that there's a difference between changing a stupid / outdated law, and considering leaving the ECHR to push through a desperate 'back of a fag-packet' bill to pick up a few votes.
