  1. Bobby has been an incredible servant but with Stewart and Dow fit and in decent form, he offers most as an impact player from the bench when full backs are tiring. Hopefully we can be safe for the Hamilton game and give him a start as it will almost certainly be his last game for us.
  2. I don't think Queen's Park fans should be too downhearted. When you had the ball in our half, you weren't scared to take a chance and find gaps with short passes. But for some brilliant penalty box defending and maybe a lack of poachers instinct, it could have easily been a different result. I certainly think you'll be in a position where beating Dundee on the last day will secure the title, at the very worst.
  3. I was saying to Lichtie23 at half time that, as much as Eze is a unit at the back for QP, his first touch can be pretty wild and so it proved for the goal. Hilson has the experience to prey on those kind of things. While Adarkwa is probably our best option upfront, he was quite easily marshalled by Eze and Fox.
  4. The worst 90 mins of centre-forward play I have seen for a long time. The other 10 (then 9) positions were generally performed quite well. If Adarkwa isn't fit then Hilson deserves to start in front of both Olusanya and Komolafe.
  5. Despite the question marks over how he departed Gayfield, there's no doubting Nicky Low's quality as a player and on ability, he'd still be one of the first names in our starting XI. With all due respect, he's far, far too good to be playing at that level.
  6. I've not really seen anything from Shanks to suggest he is up to it. He works hard but games tend to pass him by and he doesn't have the pace or physicality to make himself a nuisance in those games where we need an out ball.
  7. On the Hilson issue; For the last couple of seasons, he's maybe been seen as a bit of an afterthought. He'd play upfront when we were missing Nouble/Dowds/Hamilton, knowing that he'd be straight back on the bench as soon as they were available. He'd play on the wing or off the striker when we were missing Stewart/McKenna/Craigen, again knowing he'd be straight back to the bench even if he played well. It can't be easy to keep yourself motivated when you're in that position and it may be that he was trying too hard. However, it looks like he's going to get a sustained run so maybe it will help him find a bit of form. 2 good finishes in his last 2 games maybe means a corner has been turned. Additionally, we look at the lower league teams we've played in the cup this season. Every game has been a bit of a stroll. I think it would be unlikely we would find a better striker than Hilson down there and the ones that might be are likely at the FT teams.
  8. Great result and by all accounts some good performances. Much needed after a slow start. I can see the argument for a back 3 of Hammy, TOB and Little but need to remember that it's not a case of simply putting them together and it will need regular games together. The rate of injuries/suspensions we're getting there right now, we might be better off with a pair at the back.
  9. I understand where you're coming from but, even in hindsight, I can't really see what we could have done up to now. The position we're in means we're shopping in a very limited market. There's very few part-time players in Scotland that will improve us and the ones that would are playing for clubs that have the finances to demand a decent fee. Therefore, we're gambling on unattached players from over the border. This season poses an additional challenge with Cove in the division, competing in the same market. Central defence in particular would have been difficult to recruit because we couldn't guarantee games for any arrival.
  10. Donnelly will do a turn for a club that are going to dominate games. One of these lowland league teams throwing money to get in the SPFL could do a lot worse.
  11. I can't think of a bigger signing we've made in my lifetime. It's a risk and I'm not convinced it will pay off but if it does, the upside is absolutely massive.
  12. Not many positives to take as it was a pretty brutal slog. However it's better than our start last season and also means we've taken as many points from Somerset as we did last season. Main problem is going forward. I think Bobby needs to be considered an impact sub now, think he can be much more influential that way. Shanks really needs an out and out striker alongside him to maybe talk him through the game as he was quite easily pocketed by the Ayr backline. Fosu made a decent impact in his place. With TOB out, I'd move Hammy inside next week and give Hancock a run at left back. Hopefully JT will be fit and Gold can take Jacobs place in midfield.
  13. Our defence was quite sloppy and Airdrie had a fair few chances, especially first half. I don't know if it's a younger manager thing but I'm seeing more and more teams trying to build from the back and every time I see it, I think it causes them more problems than us. Every time I see a team religiously play goal kicks to a defender in the box, I know that we'll force a mistake that leads to a chance at least once in the course of the game.
  14. Just need a St. Mirren shootout win during the week and we win the group and hopefully that happens to allow us to go into the Airdrie game with the option of making some changes. In saying that, a win against Airdrie gives us a fair chance of being seeded in the 2nd round.
  15. It's like the stadium was designed solely to piss off the spectators. I feel bad for the home fans. It's such a poor fan experience that, along with the name change, I can see crowd figures dwindling.
  16. He didn't have the physicality for our playing style this season. I don't expect him to be playing full-time when his contract expires.
  17. The 3-0 defeat against Caley was arguably one of the most important results of the season for us. After beating Killie at the start of February, our standards dipped and we only took 4 points from the 4 games that followed (and were fortunate to get that) when we probably needed at least 7 to keep momentum. A scrappy win to Dunfermline followed where we could easily have dropped points again. However, Caley really punished our lethargy that day and it gave us a bit of a kick up the backside for the rest of the season. I'd like to think they won't be facing the same team on Tuesday. We've generally struggled more against sides with strong, experienced centre-halves and I think we would have had a much better chance against the other Thistle.
  18. Highlight - Too many to name them all. At the time, Craigen scuffing one in at Rugby park is probably the most elation I've ever felt at a goal. Anytime Nouble went one on one with a defender. Never seen anything like it before and doubt I ever will. Lowlight - Alston. No complaints about the result on the night, but it was obviously devastating.
  19. It was good to get a run out for Ford and Bakare. Ford struggled to get in the game, big spells passed him by. The difference when Hamilton came on was obvious. I thought Bakare looked like he might be able to offer something. He looks like one of those players who doesn't know what his own next move is so can be awkward to defend against. He might be able to fill a bit of the void left by Hilson's injury. The tempo of the game was a bit lower which was to be expected given it was a dead rubber. This allowed Gav to get plenty of time on the ball and pick passes out. Henderson also offered some decent distribution from the back and Scott Stewart seems ideally suited as a wing back. However, there was a notable increase in intensity when we brought on the subs and they overwhelmed Morton.
  20. It seems a long time since I've been to a game that is ultimately meaningless. It's all about getting fringe players a run out, imo. It's difficult for us to do that with our back line but the midfield and attack can be freshened up and we should give starts to Ford and Bakare, if only to see if they can offer us anything in the playoffs.
  21. Devine has been (surprisingly) decent every time I've seen him. We've not had much change out of the Caley defence all season and I think they are the best equipped Championship club to win the playoffs. If we're selecting players on the basis of half a season like Lafferty (which is totally justified), I think there's an argument that Nouble deserves to be there.
  22. Is there anything more 'da' ish than complaining about exuberance in scoring a league winning goal in the last minute? f**k me.
  23. I think we really missed Donnelly when he went off. Lost our out ball and every time we cleared it, it just came straight back and we were dead on our feet for the last 10 mins. We needed someone upfront just to get a foot on the ball and give our defence a breather and a chance to organise. That was what Nouble was great for. Gaston was absolutely immense and certainly justified keeping him on despite his injury causing us problems with our own goal kicks. Killie deserved the win and deserve the title but the manner of defeat is tough to take on the night. Over the season, we've been punished for drawing too many games at home. I've seen a bit of criticism, particularly on twitter, about the quality of play that was on show. I'd rather watch what we saw last night than a Pep Guardiola team make 30 sideways passes in their own half tbf. For a team to punch so far above their weight like we have, it's going to be about doing the simple things well rather than doing anything complicated. It was the same with Leicester 15/16 and it was the same with Greece 2004
