  1. I don't think Wighton will start even if Hilson is out. I reckon JT will come in, Scott Stewart on the wing and McKenna moved inside.
  2. I wouldn't be dropping Hilson. It's not been his best season but he's had an influence on recent games simply by pressing from the front.
  3. I'll be very wary on Friday night of the referee influence of our game. As much as our heroics have created great publicity for the SPFL, a part-time team in the top flight will look bad which explains the measures already taken to try and keep us down (expanding to 5 subs, shifting our most crucial games to Friday nights etc) and we're still in there. They may need to get the refs to resort to drastic measures now and then they'll use it as confirmation of why we need VAR.
  4. The pressure is on both teams but it's not the same kind of pressure. I'm just glad we've hit a little bit of form coming into the game as my only worry is that we go into these last 2 games and not do ourselves justice.
  5. I'd also like to see LD bulk up for next season, if only for him to become a diet Nouble.
  6. I don't know if it was a lack of confidence but they were struggling with some of the basic aspects of defending such as dealing with high balls. If Gibson brings in a 'b*****d' in the centre of defence and midfield, there's probably enough to work with to come straight back up as there are some tidy players that will create plenty.
  7. I must say, the OG brought back memories of that game to me too.
  8. The biggest game in our history. I don't know if that's an inspiration or a burden for our players.
  9. I don't understand why Carson doesn't start every match for Caley. Really like him
  10. The desperation at trying to claim that this is some miraculous comeback against the odds.
  11. I've never been to a big club that has done cash gates. Enjoy your big day out.
  12. Potentially 9 games to go for us this season and this will be the last one played on a weekend. Of those 8 games following, 7 of the dates were arranged since the start of March. SPFL clearly desperate to avoid having a part-time team in their top flight and therefore doing everything they can to prevent it.
  13. We looked a lot better in the 2nd half with Hilson in the middle. I said last week we need to take a few more risks and in the 2nd half we did that (to an extent). I'm not sure we have enough creativity to open up team so it's really about doing what we did to get our goal. Early whipped crosses from the full-back and make the opposition have to defend it. We had lots of opportunities to do it (especially Scott Stewart) but there was too often an extra touch taken or an attempt to beat the full-back.
  14. Can never fault our players for effort but there was a clear lack of composure throughout the game. I don't think we're taking enough risks in the final third - it's like we're playing the percentages.
  15. In all fairness, if I was to pick a manager to assemble a side of square pegs in round holes, McGlynn would be fairly high in my list.
  16. I obviously was aware Benedictus would be out but Lang and Berra are arguably a better pairing anyway. To hear they are injured too is a massive boost. If Spencer is back, that'll be big for them. He's impressed me everytime I've seen him, including his spell at Forfar.
  17. We may have been as route one but Nouble and Dowds were much better at winning their battles and keeping the ball up there, so our defence was seeing far less of the ball.
  18. We can speak from experience that momentum from the end of one season can give you a boost for the following one provided you keep a bit of continuity in the side.
  19. The club took a conscious decision at the start of the season to operate a smaller playing squad and this is coming to bite us a bit. However, and this is the important part, if we had spread our playing budget across more players, there is next to no chance we'd be in the position we're in. We're in the second tier, 29 games in, and the title is still in our own hands! We've not been playing well for 5 or 6 weeks and we've finally been punished. Hopefully this can spark a bit of a response in our next couple of games.
  20. If he doesn't push McKenna up on Saturday, he never will. I'm one of Donnelly's biggest cheerleaders and I think there is a player in there but that's 3 years he's been at the club and we've still not found a way to make him effective. Jack Hamilton is winning loads of aerial battles and we're not picking up the 2nd balls (something we were really good at earlier in the season) and I think McKenna up with him would help. We've got loads of players that can play alongside Chris Hamilton too. Even in the absence of Nicky Low, we've seen Craigen, Gold and Henderson all play well in that position this season.
  21. After a great 1st half, that 2nd half was pretty poor and we ended up lucky getting out with a point. Bobby Linn made a great showing on the wing. As much as I like Scott Stewart, there was a noticeable improvement in the quality of delivery from the wing (although Stewart put in a great ball for Donnelly in the 2nd half) Wighton, who I've not been particularly impressed with, had his best game for us since returning (certainly in the first 45) I think McCall outwitted Campbell a bit with his 2nd half subs. Alegria didn't do much but it certainly helped Brian Graham who ran our defence ragged in the 2nd half.
  22. Henderson does a job at left wing. He's not expected to beat a man and whip a ball in but he'll generally have a significant height advantage over the person marking him so can be utilised as a target man. There's nothing elaborate about our style of play. We get the ball forward early and have players try and feed off the scraps, then work it into the box. It's not fancy, it's rarely pretty but we're very good at it. Teams are getting wise to it though and now make themselves very narrow when defending to strangle any space. I think we will need to see another masterclass from the management just to tweak things back in our favour, like they did when Nicky Low first got injured.
  23. I think, ideally, we'd ease him in to a game we're 2 goals up (or throw him on a game we're 2 goals down) to give him the minutes. We ultimately have no idea if he is good enough for this level and there is only so much you can judge from training and bounce games. However, we don't want to stick him on in a crucial game we need something from and find out he isn't up to it.
