  1. Sad to hear about both Marsh and Warne, two genuine greats with Shane belonging in the very top pantheon. Clearly Warne's death is more of a shock given his age, but Marsh was one of my favourites in the great Aussie side in the 70s when I started following cricket - his brother Graham also being a world class sportsman as a golfer (my favourite sport at that time, along with football). I smile every time I watch Shane's dismissal of Mike Gatting with his first delivery in test cricket in England. Gatting's expression is priceless, he can't actually believe it.
  2. Waspie makes a good point about Hutton not coming to take the ball when we were under pressure late on against Cove. As he also says, Hutton is a decent keeper, but his stature certainly counts against him - I feel he could have done better with a few of the goals we have lost recently if he had another several inches of reach. Manager's decision of course and will be interesting to see which way he goes.
  3. Both Boyd and Sammon deserve to start for me. Henderson contributes very little apart from his goals - yes I know his goals are a huge plus, but for me I'd rather see the level of work rate we got from everyone last week again. With Robbo out I'd go with the same starting eleven (I'm assuming the formation will be the same) with the possible exception of Hutton making way for Morrison (who I can't remember seeing play). Unfortunately I can't make this one, so will be relying on the stream. We need to be looking to put a run of home wins together.
  4. I was really meaning that was why he was on the left of the three rather than why he was in the three at all.
  5. Don't know much about Ross's style of play, but hoping he is competition/cover for big Sammon. I see we've signed goalie Peter (PJ) Morrison from Motherwell too. Probably just decent cover for Hutton.
  6. Three of those six in the first half too IIRC.
  7. Taggs looked to me to be picking up Megginson, and I assume that's the reason he was playing on the left of the three at the back. I actually thought he had a very good game and complemented Andy G and Durnan. I take your point generally though - we miss his attacking qualities from right back. Overall it was night and day to pretty much all our performances under Ferguson. I liked the two up top, which seemed to suit Sammon, who had probably his best game for Alloa. Scougall was also deployed in a position which suited his quality. Like Waspie, I'll wait for the highlights to confirm, but Robbo's red looked like nonsense. He just mistimed his challenge, there was no great force or danger to the Cove player; although I'm sure it was a sore one, given where he looked to have been caught. Real pity we didn't hang on for the three points, although we probably weren't good enough last ten minutes to ensure that. Cove remain a very good side. I believe Robbo had a niggle during the week, but we certainly need him to start if able.
  8. It was a bad tackle certainly. That's always been part of Paton's game - I don't mean that as a criticism, Stevie Hetherington left some tasty tackles in there quite often and I always liked that about him. Couldn't make the game so just basing my comments on the highlights and the comments from posters of both teams. Firstly, it was good to see Robbo starting in Central midfield, that's a no brainer as most Alloa fans know and a black mark on Ferguson's management. I'm not sure exactly what formation we played, but it sounds like a 4-3-3 and that seems to better suit our midfielders. King in particular looks like he had a good game, getting forward and using his energy (which we haven't seen much of). The team looked more motivated and seemed to play with more freedom. Maybe credit to them/Paddy or, maybe, just Bazza being away. As an aside I caught up with a bluenose friend of mine yesterday. For a bluenose he's a fair and reasonable guy, but he had fallen for the line in the interview that the players weren't up to doing what Ferguson wanted them too - I put him right on that! I don't think Henderson gets back in that starting eleven. Keep him on the bench for when the game opens up.
  9. You guys must be relieved Alloa have just parted company with Barry Ferguson.
  10. Bizarre seeing wee Kev playing against us. Kirkpatrick doing what he does.
  11. I'm well aware of Brian Rice's managerial experience and record. My point re experience was that we shouldn't be bringing in a complete managerial novice given our situation ( Mulraney has done that, very successfully, three times in recent history - both Hartley and Goodwin were excellent for us, but both took some time, unsurprisingly, to find their feet). I think that's a valid point and Rice does have enough experience to add something quickly. Whether, if he is indeed appointed, he actually does a good job, well that remains to be seen.
  12. Given our league position, we need someone experienced to come in and be able to come in quickly (if MM can't persuade AG). If it's Rice he ticks both of those boxes.
  13. Albatross - Fleetwood Mac Apostrophe' - Frank Zappa Green Onions - Booker T. & the M.G.'s After the Ordeal - Genesis One of these days - Pink Floyd (if you ignore the one line lyric)
  14. Agree Andy as interim to season's end is our best bet. Question after that would be is he willing to hang up his boots to take on the role permanently.
  15. Difficult to describe just how bad we were today.
  16. Players just need to stop feeling sorry for themselves.
  17. Indeed, the manager just seems to shoehorn players in with no obvious reasoning. Dropping Cawley is always a mistake IMO (assuming he is fit), but doing so on what would be his 400th appearance (a genuinely tremendous achievement) is just dreadful man management and lacks class. Remember he did the same thing for Robbo's 200th. It's almost like it is deliberate to show he's the boss. What a fanny. Final straw for me and he has to go now.
  18. Deserved win for Falkirk. They may not be the finished article, but they are well ahead of us.
  19. We're creating plenty chances. Either we've upped our game or Falkirk's defence is dodgy.....
