  1. Goodfellas The acting from Liotta, Pesci and De Niro (who surprisingly doesn't appear as often as you'd think) is superb. Pesci is terrifying as the crazy nut job who'll whack anyone who makes him look silly. That "Funny how" scene really had me on goind... For some strange reason the movie didn't do much for me, I thought the ending was a big let-down for the whole thing. Wise-guys. 7.5/10 Unforgiven The duck of death Excellent piece. A good look at morality. 9/10
  2. These past couple of pages... On the subject of humour and mental illness, it all depends really imo. If I came to you with something seriously bothering me, I wouldn't appreciate a jokey response back. Suicide thread? Didn't read as it didn't appeal to me. It's a tricky decision though, don't think mods can win either way.. That's great news RN, long may it continue.
  3. Will check out the reith lectures, thanks. Bought that book for my sister (who's down in London studying medicine) and she thoroughly enjoyed it.
  4. Sounds quite similar to"complications" by Atul Gawande. Dr Gawande is a surgeon in Massachussetts, and in this personal memoir he writes how surgeons are people too. That they are pretty much learning on the job and as such, mistakes can happen as a lot of last minute improvisation happens. It's really well written and gives you an idea on how ER should be like. Currently nearly finished "A short history of nearly everything" by Bill Bryson. Read "walk in the woods" by BB and wanted more from him and this was recommended by a few people. Apparently BB gets quite a few wrong in this book, but the informal, comedic style and sheer volume of interesting tid-bits more than make up for its flaws. You'll learn many things from astronomy, geology, chemistry, biology.. it's great.
  5. Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind. 2nd time watching this and enjoyed it even more to my surprise. You'll laugh one minute, then you're upset the next. Kirsten Dunst 8/10 Magnolia Tom Cruise is excellent from what I watched. Managed 2 hours of this, until I realised there was another one left and shut it off the film just felt too much of an effort. That scene where Donnie is told he's fired is hilarious though. Poor wee Stanley. That intro. Se7en First time watching this and it lived up to all the hype. Kevin Spacey is on top form yet again, as is Brad Pitt to my surprise. 9/10 Oldboy Wtf throughout the entire film. That octopus scene 8/10
  6. Thoughts on the moto g? Really need to upgrade my Samsung Galaxy S (froyo operating system) I'm not looking for a top of the range, brand spanking new phone. Just one that sounds good, plays videos well, good for surfing the web and accepts an external memory card. Any other fit that mould too? Apparently some of the sony ones are belters too?
  7. The English Patient Ralph Fiennes is an Hungarian cartographer who is shot down by some anti-aircraft weapons, but rescued by the allies and transported to Italy. He's nursed back to health, and re-counts the events that led up to being shot (his love romance with Kristin Scott Thomas, being let down and escaping from the allies, negotiating with the Germans to return back to KST). Saeed from Lost is in this in a similar role. Beautifully shot, tragic ending. My lady partner was bawling. Long. Very long. Very deserving of the Oscar nominations. 7/10
  8. Taxi Driver The visuals were sublime. The score was phenomenal too (bit ott at times though). My jaw dropped during that last wee bit. A young and fantastic Robert de Niro as Travis Bickle is the epitome of loneliness in a busy New York. 8/10.
  9. ""Hey, I'll roundhouse kick in your head, if you think won't. I'll come into McDonalds where you work. I'll buy the whole damn place and I'll fire you. I'll say drop your mops you buttholes, cuz you're fired. And I'll roundhouse kick you right in your stupid heads. Then I'll go Jean-Claude Van Damme on you" "This isn't about what's legal. Slavery used to be legal. Human slavery. " "Hamlindigo Blue"
  10. Wild Tales, an Argentinian dark comedy. 6 short stories all examining little stuff that can happen in your life in an over the top, hilarious fashion. 8/10 The big lebowski "You see what happens when you f**k a stranger in the ass", " good night sweet prince", logjammin, jackie treehorn, Jesus, "Mark it zero". Amazing 9/10 Fargo Macy and McDormand are both excellent in this dark picture. Marge just seems like such a real life person.. "So that was Mrs. Lundegaard on the floor in there. And I guess that was your accomplice in the wood chipper. And those three people in Brainerd. And for what? For a little bit of money. There's more to life than a little money, you know. Don'tcha know that? And here ya are, and it's a beautiful day. Well. I just don't understand it." 8/10 Team America Wasn't as good as how my mates described it, but that's probably down to me taking so long to watch it, when most of the iraq/afghan stuff has died down. Loved the songs though "Aids, montage and buck-o-five". 6.5/10
  11. Carbs are tasty, cheap and make for good workouts, but you also want good fats (from fish, oils and nuts for example) for health and well-being.
  12. Watched a few classics over the weekend. Raising Arizona Coen Brother's movie. This is probably my new favourite movie of all time. Over the top hilarity from the start, the chase scene after the robbery was amazing. Nicholas Cage was really good in this and the soundtrack with the banjo and yoddela-ing was amazing. 9/10 Trainspotting What a film! Can't believe it took me this long to watch it. Robert Carlyle is incredible and frightening as the angry Begbie. Ewan McGregor was good too. Hilarious Spud. Poor Tommy. Amazing tunes too - Underworld and Pulp. 9/10 Usual Suspects Keyser Soze mm.. 9/10 Vertigo My first Hitchcock. Bit slow to begin with but the crescendo when Ferguson is piecing everything together starting with the necklace was amazing. Thought Scottie was just insane as well.. 8/10
  13. Blade Runner First time watching. Visually stunning, soundtrack was awesome, Roy scared the shit out of me. Top, top film 8/10 Anchorman 2 Beating a dead horse. Joke after joke just thrown in for the sake of it. Brick's gf was cringe-worthy, didn't laugh at her scenes.. 3/10 Ghost in the shell Interesting anime about self-identity and ai. 2 cops go on the hunt for the "puppetmaster" who's been hacking into brains and implanting fake memories. Aesthetically pleasing, maybe too much dialogue.. 6/10
  14. Howl's moving castle 8/10 Zoolander "Hansel's so hot right now! He's SO hot right now!" It's a smash 8.5/10
  15. Anyway, had a phone consultation with a counselor from Lifelink on Thursday, and got an appointment with a therapist at Maryhill in a fortnights time.
  16. Usually you're put on a lower/standard dosage before getting it ramped up letting it settle and getting acclimated with it. With that said, medication and dosage should be examined on an individual case-by-case basis, so your best bet is to go back to your doctor. Might not even be the dose, as it could be the drug. You're based in Glasgow aren't you? Have you ever been referred to one of the psychiatrist over at the Arran Centre in Bridgeton? Edit: my spelling is all over the shot..
  17. Don't get sucked into Herbalife, especially if your mate is one of their sellers. http://www.vox.com/2014/7/23/5929209/herbalife-may-not-be-a-ponzi-scheme-but-its-pseudoscience
  18. Joe Rogan Jimmy Carr Sarah Milican Susan Calman Michael Mcintyre
  19. Akira 7/10 Dystopian Japan, 30 years after world war III.. troubled boy from bike gangs becomes empowered with special powers and tries to enact revenge on the world. Ponyo 6/10 Boys befriends a magical fish, who desires to become human. Cute but there's something missing. Everything seemed totally superficial. Hobbit 2 4/10 Went back to it and watched the full thing. Boring.
  20. Chicken livers, sliced thinly, dipped in seasoned flour and fried in butter is dece. Lamb's liver can be pretty strong but pig's liver makes me uneasy; they seem to eat everything. Sprouts are excellent.
  21. No idea what you look like but sure thing, I'm pretty unnoticeable as the only Chinese guy in the group
  22. That's one of my problems too. People ask me why I'm depressed or why I binge and I just had no answer - which doesn't lend yourself any credibility. Some days I'm absolutely jovial, the next all I just want to do is curl up, sleep and whatever - I'm just too lethargic. I've had one therapist who tried to make me tell stories of my past but I was often hesitant as I know just how fuzzy memory can be and I hated joining up the dots like that. Anyway, recently I've tried enlarging my social circle by joining in various groups, volunteering and exercising for mental health. Also, I've got an interview with Lifelink - not too sure what to expect though. Hope everyone well.
  23. Watched a couple more. Nausicaa of the valley of the wind - retro tunes, bit of an ecological bent on it but all in all very good. Watched the English dub, which boasts a star-studded line-up from Patrick Stewart to Uma Thurman. 7/10 My Neighbour Totoro - Pretty much all my friends recommended this film. Good feelings throughout, No bad guys, no scary twists.. just a lot of fun and the animations were cute. 7/10 Hobbit no 1 - bit long, light-hearted. Really different from lotr but reasonably fun 7/10 Started watching hobbit no 2 but got a bit bored, noticed it was ~3 hours long too, so cut it off around the hour mark..
  24. Just done w3d2 of couch to 5 k. Was bricking the icy conditions at first, as I've fallen on my arse a couple of times walking so quite happy I trotted along non-stop - it tells you to alternate between jogging and walking. Got nike club to look forward to on Thursday.
  25. Runtastic app pro - android apple Settings > Runtastic Enter promo code - “FREE-UBTP-XPTP” Not sure if you get the full version forever or if it's just a trial period but thought some people might like this.
