Bob takes on the par 5 17th, 247 to the pin from the semi rough, over water with mud on the ball. Scrapes over on to the green but leaves himself about a 90ft eagle putt, which he left about 30ft short. Birdie attempt finished 10mm behind the hole.

You would think any gaps that open up in the Ashes squad through injury or Covid will be filled from here.

As I posted last week, Rahm was looking a bit tired. Definitely tougher though as there are only 11 players currently under par, including Bob now at 1 under. Dispatches on channel 4 just now is looking at the scale of sexual misconduct by serving police officers. Scary stuff, and Scotland has some of the highest numbers of cases of officers being accused of inappropriate sexual misconduct in recent years yet none have been dismissed.

Guy I played with yesterday was a former member of Bishopbriggs who is thinking of coming back again. As well as being a member of a club, he plays in 2 or 3 opens almost every week. He is retired, and travels all over Scotland and occasionally into the North of England to play. The way he looks at it, he gets to play on a lot of courses for less than he would pay as a visitor with the chance of getting some money back, and most clubs try and make sure the course is in top condition when they host an open.

Turns out they haven't actually made one this calendar year, last successful attempt was against the Bears on 27th December last year. They are the first team in the Superbowl era not to score a FG in their opening 5 games.
