I did think putting two and two to get four that McLean will end up as some form of player-assistant to Duffy. He’s likely on a higher wage so we can spread that out over a playing and coaching role, Duffy has worked with him before and he has expressed desire to earn his badges and get into coaching.

Other interesting points from the evening that haven’t been raised is the confirmation that Moore won’t be joining Duffy - as we suspected - and that we’re looking to pay him in the same way as Lennon. Also we’ve found out that Jim Thomson seemingly withdrew from his role on the commercial side of things due to family reasons. The fanbase didn’t seem to deserve to know about this and it does also question the point in having more sponsorship/commercial opportunities at NDP if there’s no one to sell the stuff.

Full strength as is to be expected with Clarke, consistency of selection as always. Ramsay heading along as good cover and an opportunity for him to get a taste of the full squad.

That negativity will fit right in then. The whole club from the top down feels like there’s an acceptance that we’re heading to the LL, that we’re outgunned financially and there’s nothing we can do. It’s not about sticking the head in the sand but I personally have been worn down and this is just the latest step. It’s felt as if we’ve never really believed we can compete at this level and we’ve just waited for the return to L2 and then eventually beyond that. In the event that Duffy does firefight us through the playoff and keep us in L1 next season, what do we do then? Appoint him and then have to punt him early next year? Why not have the vision to go for someone off the grid and see if we can turn things around? It’s the easy decision once again and we’ll pay for it either in the short or medium term.

I think SA are the team to beat. Their bowling attack is the best in the comp and with Roussouw giving QDK some back up, then they’ve now got the batting. England will beat NZ I think to make sure they’re through and I think the Aussies are in trouble with NRR.

Texans finally fire the cancer that is the pastor-in-chief and all round Sith Lord Jack Easterby. There’s already much more optimism from the sources I follow in the city that had given up on the team and hopefully this means we can get in a quality HC for the next stage in the rebuild. A lot of candidates had basically turned the job down because of his meddling in the background. Young/Stroud, a nice top 10 pick from Cleveland and Gannon from Philly as HC (he was in the final two this year) and we’re cooking with gas.

This has been coming for a while, there’s been a softening of attitudes towards LIV since the likes of Smith etc got involved. I reckon it’ll be subsumed within the golf calendar within a year or so, probably scheduled in the WGC weeks and periods where both the DPWT and PGAT don’t have strong fields.
