  1. I'm not even sure the 12-team setup works that well for some of those 12. The cliff edge of relegation is so potentially catastrophic for the perennial strugglers such as us, that we end up having to hedge our bets quite massively when it comes for forward planning, etc. We handed out a fair few two-year deals in the summer/January, the first time for a while we've done that: and it's still come pretty fucking close to backfiring. The smallest four clubs in the top flight face the same planning issues that you mention affect those in tier 2. Obviously Hearts have chucked themselves into the mix this season, but you can't rely on that sort of incompetence in a typical season. 100% agree with your post, but especially the bit in bold. Thing is: it's not about avoiding relegation. St Mirren would still struggle in a 14-team league and I'm comfortable with that. It's about not making relegation a fucking financial and footballing abyss.
  2. Ten years, man. Where is my life going?! Fucking brilliant, that: Four of the weirdest days in the life of being a St Mirren fan, right enough.
  3. Will football clubs qualify for the business bailouts? I'd imagine they do. Up to 2.5k (taxable) per employee, where they've had to stop working. It'd help the smaller clubs to meet contract obligations to some extent, anyway. And would help with other club employees, too.
  4. How the f**k was that only a week ago?! Longest week ever, without question.
  5. Naw, I reckon you've got to be looking at overall lung capacity, and the individual's ability to survive complications, should they develop. I bet McGinn's is through the roof. He'd be fine. I feel Scottish footballers have all got a bit leaner over the past few years. Of course the average has gone down since Boyd retired.
  6. So the bookies were offering odds of just better than evens on an event that, statistically, was happening roughly one game in four (based on a quick check on Soccerbase) and they're kicking off because they lost? I'll admit the amounts involved look bad, but I think I'd probably be shocked by some of the amounts that get gambled generally. I dunno, I reckon Imrie's a c**t, but this seems like it's probably bollocks to me.
  7. Glorious opportunity for meaningful league reconstruction here: an opportunity to breathe new life into Scottish football. Looking forward to seeing how they f**k it up.
  8. All joking aside, I'd fucking hate for any club* to be in serious financial trouble as a result of this. I hope creditors/HMRC can cut clubs some slack where necessary. Same goes for businesses. This is going to be absolutely brutal. * Aside from Rangers, obvs.
  9. You've got to hand it to Hibs, really: letting you beat them the other week, just to give you hope, despite knowing the season would get scrapped and you'd get relegated anyway. It was audacious, I'll give them that.
  10. I think the immediate issue there would be DUFC, who seem to have spent a large amount of money chasing promotion this season. Now their overspending is nobody else's problem, but I can't imagine they'd take a voided season lying down. Same goes for leagues down south for example: the likes of Leeds and Coventry have spent years in the doldrums but have had decent seasons. No way they're settling for a voided league. If they cancel the 'post-split' stuff, they can play the final games in April and then would roughly be on the same schedule. Not sure what the lower leagues would do, tbf. As I said, there's no solution that doesn't have problems: the best bet is being as pragmatic as possible.
  11. These are crazy times, right enough. Got to protect the vulnerable, and if this is necessary, then fair enough. Logistical nightmare, mind. There's no 'solution' that doesn't have a million ramifications. I can't see the 'post-split' fixtures happening now. I think they'll play the scheduled games then go straight to playoffs. The issue of player contracts/loans expiring is the obvious immediate stumbling block to summer football, unless a universal extension is put into place. But then you can guarantee agents will get involved and f**k everything up. Shite news for Hearts (or whoever ends up bottom) and any other teams hoping to play their way out of trouble, but it's probably preferable to voiding the season. And I promise I'll stand by that statement if we ended up bottom instead.
  12. If he'd not scored, the positioning of that defender's trailing leg makes it a stick-on penalty to Rangers.
  13. Yeah, I saw an advert for Panini stickers last week and said at the time it was going to be interesting to watch the Marketing Vs Corona showdown.
  14. Clear who the big winners are there. St Johnstone have had an incredible spell since December, considering how gash you were. I'm not undermining your achievement, but it kinda shows that it's relatively straightforward to change your fortunes in this league. Makes it incredibly frustrating that we've never really managed to not be in a relegation scrap, Gretna season aside.
