All things Dundee FC
gannonball replied to Mr Gandosaur's topic in Scottish Premiership General Chatter
Tony Watts a strange one, a lot of Scottish strikers seem to have a habit of being wasters and peak way to early (Riordan,O’Connor, Goodwillie, etc) but he just strikes me as a guy who just sees football as a job like any other and would happily work in Tescos if they paid more. -

He strikes me as a man who prefers the taste of a window, or crayons. -
It appears that some people have gone delirious over this and are suggesting that Gavin Reilly could play for Scotland one day.

Yes and no. Personally as a pure defender hes one of our best. He may have won Rodgers round like Gordon but at the end of the day hes not comfortable with the ball at his feet. I personally really liked the guy but can understand what Rodgers is going for -

Im so glad we signed Hendry now in this window. We are trying to go with 3 at the back now since we have become somewhat predictable and we also seem to ship less goals at the moment with a back 3. With so many out and injury prone this would not have been possible really if we didnt sign another centre back. I am really nervous for Thursday as Zenit will be a massive test, Rodgers will have had plenty of time to have the measure of them though. -
Motherwell FC - A Thread For All Seasons
gannonball replied to Casagolda's topic in Scottish Premiership General Chatter
The only thing I can guess if what Robinson is true is that Plymouth paid a chunk to end the deal which we offset for him to go to Motherwell. I am probably regurgitating what I have said on him previously but when we signed him he didnt look in the best of shape which doesnt help if you are looking to get some game time ahead of Griffiths. Rodgers then took over and used his well known management by making public compliments about the player by saying how well he remembered him by watching his young lad play against him at youth level and that he has a chance to stay. I think he is the sort of striker though who can’t be a cog and needs to play most games otherwise if hes out fir two games his sharpness seems to drop significantly. Then the next summer we had no strikers and some European and league games coming up, despite this he was nowehere to be seen in even in the matchday squads. We all wondered what was going on and we got our answer in a friendly against Sunderland where he came on and looked at least a stone over weight. Rodgers isnt the sort of guy who shuns players but if you arent pulling your weight he wont play you, see our other two strikers as examples. I hope he does stay in Scotland though as he does have character and talent which can be an asset to the league, he just doesnt have the mentality to make it at Celtic Im afraid. -
Motherwell FC - A Thread For All Seasons

I cant see anybody paying money for him tbh. Hes known to be quite unprofessional both on and off the pitch and most clubs will know we will just be happy to have him off the books. I dont know where people are getting that Motherwell are paying next to wages for him though as Plymouth had no right to cancel the loan so Celtic wouldnt have agreed to it unless they knew they were picking up their tab. -
Ok thanks for letting me know you asked somebody a stupid question.
-
We did mainly develop Mcgeady, as did Queens park With Robertson. Both clubs had a hand the two but the point I was arguing that somebody was claiming Mcgeady was developed by Queens park which wasnt massively true. I dont see Queens Park being amateur as derogatory as far as I am aware they still are?
-
Yes we did release him but Queens fans seem quite happy to say they developed Mcgeady yet Robertson was at Celtic for year longer than Mcgeady was at queens park . I appreciate one got poached whilst the other got released but the attributes they gained during this time dont get released as well. Im not saying we are due any credit at all but you cant say his player development had absolutely nothing to with us, in the same way that we can’t say Mcgeadys development had nothing to do with Queens park.

To have now over an entire team out isnt 'futile' or 'whinging', its just rather unlucky. To 'kick on' you need competition for places and intensive training, neither of which we can have at the moment, its nothing 'crass' its just the way it is at the moment untill we get players back fit. -

Yeah its a fine line with him, looks rusty when not played for a few games, play him too much and his knee could cave in again. -

Given his age hes not making any more mistakes than any of the current lot I would say he looks every inch of being a future regular EPL defender anyway. I dont think any of our current centre backs are paticularly bad but given our horsings in Europe we do need one who is a cut above, its been seen plenty times before when one centreback makes the rest look pretty good. We cant afford to go out and buy one like that so hopefully Ajer matures in to that type. -

Fell awkwardly after a header in Killie game if my memories right. Quite a shame as he is becoming our best centreback. Hopefully he isnt out for too long. -

Our current injured 11 Gordon; Lustig,Compper,Boyata,Ajer, Ralston; Roberts, Armstrong, Rogic, Hayes; Griffiths. Not a bad team there. Given our squad isnt massive and the amount of games we have played its no wonder we havent kicked on lateley. -

Yeah wasnt questioning how well the club was ran as a whole given the financial trouble Partick have had in the past this board seem much more switched on. I also quite like the fact that your benefactors dont seem to want to hog the limelight at all and that their money is being spent on infrastructure rather than a flash looking squad for a few seasons. -

Yeah that is true but I think it is also based on how many years they were trained by the club. -

I only just found today that he was Celtic till he was 16 so Im guessing it will be quite small if he was at your club for less than 2 years. Was thinking the other day it isnt out question to have Hendry and Lindsay both starting in Scotland team in futute. I would imagine as much as that would give a Thistle fan some pride would it not irk you slightly selling them both for relatively small amounts? -

We literally put him on loan a few days before Gordon got injured.
