Well this is absolutely dreadful. At least it’s semi watchable now, but the camera angle is useless. Sure it’s folk doing their best and trying to help the club but to charge paying customers for this is beyond a joke.

The Kate Spiers introduction is regularly quoted in my house. Tremendous accent for a TV intro. Some of the houses are shite, I don’t see the appeal of them at all. The house that won last year was like a museum, pretty cool but you wouldn’t live there unless you were a certain, incredibly pretentious, type of person.

I was in Seoul last year and it was so weird to see all the preparations they have for war. Every underground station was filled with gas masks behind glass. Was fascinating and worrying in equal measures.

Has this Goldman thing not been (semi) debunked in terms of it was a very small group (13 I think) of folk who did this survey, set out the deck to look like an official Goldman slide deck and released it on social media? Some of the hours are absolutely mental, I know a few folk who work in these kind of industries and regularly clock 70-80 hours plus. They earn good money, definitely not life changing and no more than you can earn in other “hot” industries nowadays where you retain a degree of work life balance. Theres also a question where everyone says that this is massively inhumane, but they also say they’d be happy to see others suffer the same fate. Reckon it’s a bit like the bullying that went on in football teams, “well it happened to me so the next group should also suffer it”. I think a fair amount of the behaviour in IB/corporate law comes down to people not wanting others to experience an easier ride than they did.

I was at a talk given by Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, and he gave a fair analogy on the problems of this. In the past people “invited” a trusted source into your house to give you the news, for example the BBC. This relied on there being a fair degree of journalistic standards etc., but you were essentially able to turn on and off this tap of news and information and it only came from a trusted source. Contrast that to now where we are bombarded at all times with the 24 hour news cycle, presented to you by literally anyone. Pair this with the biggest data mining operation and you’ve now got a bombardment of media, generally hyper targeted towards you and your interests, along with the associated advertising etc. Even potentially more harmful is the shadow advertising we now get, where you’re unaware that your behaviour is being manipulated and being advertised to.

I didn’t appreciate that’s how bad our away form is. That is criminal for a team with our budget.
