  1. @Dons_1988 pointed out in the mathematical milestones thread that 9th is Aberdeens natural position when not qualifying for Europe. This prompted me to look into whether we'd finished in every position from 2nd-11th since the 12 team league was introduced. The answer was surprisingly no, we have never finished 5th. 2nd x 4 3rd x 3 4th x 7 5th x 0 6th x 1 7th x 1 8th x 2 9th x 3 10th x 1 11th x 1 So in the 23 seasons since the 12 team league was introduced the Dons have finished in 9 of the 12 available positions. I'm thinking Hearts might have the full bifter of 2-12 and I reckon there's a fair chance that Hibs, Killie and Dundee Utd might have 3-12. How have fellow P and B'ers clubs fared in the top flight since the 12 team league was introduced.
  2. I'm sure this has been covered in here before but can't be bothered wading through pages to see if it has been. 'Rangers' were very close to getting a back door into the CL league stages if they finish 2nd in the league. It's all hypothetical and a lot of ifs buts and maybes but according to Berts page, if the Europa Lge title holder place in the Champions League is not required then it goes to the highest ranked team on the 5 year rankings that are in the CL qualifiers. This would require Leverkusen winning the EL or Atalanta or Roma if they finish Top 5 in Italy. Rangers are 25th in the 5 year rankings, the only club ahead of them that will be in the qualifiers are Benfica who will be the beneficiaries of this if the EL title holder spot is not required.
  3. On to the weekend. Kilmarnock will secure 4th if they beat St Mirren. This would put them into Europa Lge Q2 next season. St Mirren can keep Top 4 dreams alive with a draw and can secure Top 5 and Europe with a win if Dundee fail to beat Hearts, a scenario that would mean Dundee finish 6th. Into the bottom half Hibs will secure a Top 9 finish with at least a point against Aberdeen or if County fail to beat Motherwell. Aberdeen will secure a Top 9 berth with a win. A point or a defeat will be enough if County fail to win. Motherwell will clinch Top 9 with at least a point. County will be unable to finish higher than 10th if they don't beat Motherwell. St Johnstone will be unable to finish higher than 10th unless they beat Livi and Motherwell lose to County. Livingston are relegated.
  4. As of the weekend. Hearts are confirmed in 3rd spot and are guaranteed league stage European football for season 24/25. Kilmarnock have sealed a Top 5 finish and will play continental football for the first time since a 2019/20 defeat to Connah's Quay Nomads. Dundee can finish no higher than 5th. Aberdeen and Motherwell are both safe from the playoff. Livingston are relegated.
  5. We really could've just closed the thread after this. Hope everyone took my betting advice because I stupidly didn't.
  6. I'm kinda getting sick of hearing English managers and press moaning about the demands on players at the top end of the game. Van Dijk has started 42 games for Liverpool this season (the most in their squad), Miovski for Aberdeen has started 47. Both will have played a similar number of internationals. Fair enough Miovski will get a break over the summer because North Macedonia haven't qualified for the Euros. In 2015/16, McGinn made 43 appearances for Aberdeen, went to the Euros with Northern Ireland, got knocked out on 25th June and our first European qualifier was on 30th June. Its not just the elite players that play loads of games and these clubs have massive massive squads. If Liverpool don't play Salah, for example, they've got a Colombian, Uruguayan, Dutch or Portuguese international to play instead of him. If Aberdeen leave out Miovski they've got Duk or Sokler. European Club football, the World Cup, the World Club Cup and Euros have all expanded in size recently without much of a peep from big clubs because they'll make a fortune out if it, yet they scrap FA Cup replays which could keep a small club miles down the pyramid going for years. TL:DR. f**k the big clubs and the games a bogey.
  7. They were on 26pts after 10 games and have picked up 34 in their last 24. Dunno if it's a case of teams having worked them out or if the players are starting to resist the system now its not providing them with success. I thought Postecoglu's post match interviews last night were quite telling, it appeared he was saying the players weren't responding to instructions. If they've chucked it then he's in big trouble, because I'm not sure I can see him changing his style of play.
  8. Set to be yet another enthralling encounter in a series which has seen 3 or more goals in the match once in the last 20 occasions has been played. Under 2.5 goals available at 4/5. 0-0 or 1-0 either side, a dreadful game, a poor crowd and much apathy.
  9. Clear and obvious error on my part. Think it's maybe my first one of the season unlike the 20-odd made by VAR.
  10. At the weekend. 'Rangers' secured a top 2 finish and Killie secured a Top 5 finish and European football. Hibs are definitely safe. Moving on to the upcoming fixtures. Hearts will secure 3rd spot and guaranteed Group Stage European football with a win at Parkhead on Saturday, should they fail to win, anything other than a killie win in Mordor will also see the Jambos finish 3rd. A Killie victory will secure 4th if St Mirren don't beat Dundee. St Mirren will be unable to finish 4th if they don't at least match Killies result. Dundee will be unable to finish 4th if they don't beat St Mirren or Killie beat 'Rangers' Into the bottom half. Hibs can secure a Top 9 finish if St Johnstone fail to beat Aberdeen or if they beat Ross County. Aberdeen will be safe from the playoff with a win against St Johnstone. A draw would be good enough if Ross County fail to beat Hibs. Aberdeen can also secure a Top 9 finish with a win if County fail to beat Hibs. Motherwell will be safe with a win against Livi. A draw will be enough if both St Johnstone and Ross County lose. St Johnstone will be safe from the automatic drop if they match or better Livingston's result. They'll be unable to catch Hibs with anything other than a win or if Hibs win and unable to catch Aberdeen if they lose to them. Ross County will be safe from the automatic drop if they better Livi's result. They'll be unable to catch Hibs unless they beat them, unable to catch Aberdeen if the Dons win and they don't and unable to catch Motherwell if the Steelmen win and County lose. Livi will be relegated with a defeat if Ross County pick up a point. A draw will also see them relegated if County win and St Johnstone get anything at Pittodrie. A draw for Livi will mean they are unable to finish higher than 11th. Even with a win, Livi could still be consigned to at least the playoff if either St Johnstone or Ross County win.
  11. I flew to Sydney the next day. Was on the 6am flight from ABZ to LHR after watching the whole game, had never flown long haul before. Pretty much slept for 18hrs straight when I got to Sydney.
  12. So with Dundee being held to a draw by 'Rangers', they retain possession of the potato going into the Post Split fixtures. They host Celtic on Sunday at the ScotFoam stadium. Next Hot Potato Fixture Sunday 28th April Dundee (holders) vs Celtic
  13. For clubs the size of those in League 1 and 2, is there really need for there being 20 doctors employed by 20 clubs?
  14. So are we pretending that VAR is this accurate. There's no fucking chance that the variables as in when the ball is kicked and that the lines are accurate. Absolute nonsense.
  15. Did she not renegotiate the pre-nup not that long ago. Be interesting to see if he'd rather pay the fines and claim he's got no money to give to Melania or not pay the fines and pay her a shed load. Tough one for his ego.
  16. If they can't be in line then why do we get dead heats in other sporting events??
  17. Wasn't sure where to put this so stuck it in here due to higher traffic. Prompted by the Highland League thread and mention of some Buckie fans not wanting to go up due to becoming a small fish in a bigger pond. My thought was that they would have a fear of being like Elgin, who have never been promoted or relegated since inception into the League set up meaning 24 years in the 4th tier. Can any of our resident stattos tell me if this is the longest streak of a club being in the same tier that isn't the Premier Division/SPL/Premiership. I can recall Albion Rovers and East Stirling being mainly bottom tier for a long time before being relegated.
  18. Its OK. You don't have to justify yourself. There will be heaps of celtic fans that haven't left the East end of Glasgow that are "irish' Same as Rangers fans that think they have a connection with Northern Ireland. The rest of us will never understand why. But each to your own.
  19. So the plot thickens. The majority of your fan base 'come from Scotland' yet you can't see a single saltire in your support but heaps of tricolour. Don't get me wrong, I level the same accusation at your sisters across the city but I have occasionally seen a saltire at ibrox. If the majority of your support comes from Scotland, why don't you identify with that.
  20. Not judging by the folk I encountered on the approaches to hampden before and after the game. Just being honest.
  21. Buchan bhoys csc have just passed us on the motorway. Huge Irish diaspora on that bus.
