  1. I do have to laugh when I see folk moaning about their central belt train being cancelled and the horror of having to wait 15 minutes for the next one. A blizzard once prevented me getting into Aberdeen on that 35 bus. Got as far as Fyvie and could get no further. Ended up on the bus back to Elgin and then on the train from there to Aberdeen. Parents couldn't even get to Fyvie from Aberdeen to pick me up. Left Cullen at 10am, got to Aberdeen just after 7pm.
  2. It covers Cullen but doesn't come I'm as far as Aberdeen.
  3. Public transport anywhere north of Aberdeen is utterly dreadful and painfully expensive. I don't drive and head up from Aberdeen to Cullen a few times a year. If I'm going on my own I normally get a lift from my parents out to Newmachar from Bridge of Don (10-15 mins in the car) then jump on the 35 bus from there. Total journey time is around 2hr 30 from leaving BoD to arrival in Cullen. Folks are on holiday at the moment and I headed up last week. About 30 mins on the First bus from BoD to town then 2hr 45 on the 35, probably over 3hr 45 from door to door allowing for making sure I was on time. Total cost of journey was £31.40 (£3.05 x2 for First and £25.30 return to Cullen) The same journey in the car would've taken around an hour each way and according to a fuel calculator, have cost about £13 in total, there and back. Was £6 for a single from Buckie to Cullen as well while up there.
  4. So. TRUMP is still going to win the Presidency, again, and the rest of the world will laugh and Americans will think 'how did this happen'
  5. As of the weekend. The league is still a 3 horse race. Killie and St Mirren could still make the Champions League qualifying spot. County can finish no higher than 4th.
  6. St Mirren to finish 5th. Dons to go down but win the cup and deny Saints Europe.
  7. If the Tories were to make it official policy that a vote for the tories meant you got a free hit at Michael Gove, I'm pretty sure that could persuade tens of thousands of Scots to vote Tory. Come on Mikey boy, take one for the team.
  8. I've said for a while now that moderate and Liberal America are sleepwalking their way into a 2nd Trump Presidency. I'll be here to say 'I told you so' in November.
  9. It's probably the fact that it's a race to the bottom is so many industries, especially in any sort of customer facing job. My old boy was a branch manager for Clydesdale, took early retirement from it at 50. When he first moved into Aberdeen in the late 70's, there were something like 20 branches in the city, there's now 2, probably with half the staff there used to be in each. I worked in betting shops for just over 10 years. When I first started in Ladbrokes under the Heilanmans umbrella in Glasgow in 2003, we had 4 staff on a Saturday afternoon. 3 tills running and the boss emptying/filling tills as required and covering breaks. Last time I was in that shop it was single manned. Now I appreciate that the two industries I've alluded to here have been massively influenced by a shift to online platforms but I can certainly vouch that the wages in a betting shop have reduced massively in real terms. I'd suggest that a deputy manager in a betting shop now would earn less than I did 15 years ago due to the fact we got time and a half for anything over 36hrs between Monday and Saturday and double time for a Sunday. If you worked 42 hrs during the week then 8 on a Sunday, yeah you had worked a 50hr week but you were getting paid 61hrs for doing it. Due to the opening hours, you could do 42hrs in 3 and a bit days. Now, you could argue that the current model of 5 from 7 and shorter shifts is better than knocking your pan in and doing 50hr weeks but if you were financially rewarded for it then it was all good. A ramble, I know.
  10. St Mirren batter St Johnstone and they then beat a truly woeful Aberdeen. The season has been so fucking bad it was inevitable we would inherit the spud at some point. We can hand it straight back to St Mirren at the weekend though, although we almost certainly won't. Next Hot Potato Fixture Saturday 2nd March St Mirren vs Aberdeen (holders)
  11. Under 2.5 goals is 4/5 at the bookies. There have been 3 or more goals once in the last 19 meetings. I'm going for a 4-4 draw
  12. That's a pretty daft comment on a lot of levels. Willie Miller's aberdeen side finished runners up to Rangers in all 3 competitions in 92/93. In 93/94 they finished 3 points behind Rangers having drawn 21 of 44 games, losing only 6. Turning 4 of those draws into wins would have seen them win the title. OK, it went a bit wrong in 94/95 but it was still a squad that contained Snelders, Wright, McKimmie, Irvine, Grant, Joe Miller, Jess, Booth, Dodds and Shearer. That's nowhere near our worst side of the last 30 years. And neither is this one, other than the chronic lack of width, which warnock has tried to address by bringing in Hoilett, there is a good side in there somewhere. There are so many of the players who just look so devoid of confidence.
  13. This is starting to get very reminiscent of Hibs relegation under Butcher. If we lose to St Johnstone in midweek we are in serious serious trouble.
  14. Any name that can be shortened into several aliases. See Robert, William for examples. If you want your kid to be named Bob, Bobby, Rob, Robbie then name them that. Not sure I've ever encountered a Robert known as Robert or a William known as William.
  15. Lord, its a miracle. The Hot Potato finally leaves the Spaghettihad and makes its way to Paisley. A single goal from Tete Yengi meant a first league win since October for Livi and a first new residence for the Spud in 2024. St Mirren have the chance to offload the tattie to a St Johnstone side very familiar with it having held it for the first 9 rounds of fixtures. Next Hot Potato Match Saturday 24th February St Mirren (holders) vs St Johnstone
  16. On to this weekend. In the title race, it could be down to as few as 4. The only way Hibs and Aberdeen can remain involved is if they win their games against Dundee and Kilmarnock respectively and 'Rangers' lose to Hearts and Celtic lose to Motherwell. This would also require both the remaining "old firm" games to be draws or a celtic win and a draw. Dundee and St Mirren could also be eliminated from title contention if they both lose and Celtic and 'Rangers' both win. This would leave the Buddies and the dees able to reach a maximum of 68 points and with two Glasgow derbies left the minimum they could accumulate would be 69. Hearts will secure a top 6 spot with a point. Hibs failing to win would also guarantee them a top 6 spot as Aberdeen would be capable of catching them if they beat Killie but would also have to beat Dundee twice to do so which would mean Dundee couldn't catch them. A hibs win and Aberdeen dropping points coupled with a Hearts defeat would mean the top 6 champagne remaining on ice in Gorgie. The good news for Jambos is that they are safe from automatic relegation. Livi can only make it to 52 points and to do so would have to beat both Aberdeen and Hibs which would guarantee Hearts a top 6 berth. A draw in the County v Livi game would make Hearts safe from the playoff as County would only be able to reach a maximum of 50 points if they lost twice to Hibs and Hibs winning every game is a pre-requisite for Hearts finishing bottom 6. Livi could become the first team confined to Bottom 6 barracks if they lose to Ross County and Dundee beat Hibs. Big weekend coming up.
  17. Is it just me or does it seem that the brown and black people in the Conservative party are the ones most keen on having fewer brown and black people kicking around. I'm sure there must be some sort of sociological term for this.
  18. The mathematical milestones will be updated when I can be arsed.
