  1. My list is on, and my sub? Hint - he's looks really weird bald.
  2. We already have a "Famous Films You've Never Seen" thread. I'm not aware of one of these however. So the question is - what famous TV shows have you never seen? Simple enough. And - do you have a reason for dodging? I'll kick off with Peep Show, the Vicar of Dibley and Death in Paradise. There will be others I'm sure.
  3. Bolton woman's anger after bin damaged during collection The general rule stands - the pettier the reason, the better the Compo Face.
  4. Toby, who went missing in Nuneaton, has returned home after 11 years. He hasn't said where he was but appears safe and well.
  5. I think you can send in a list with a substitute in case one of the starting XV croaks.
  6. The Daleks In Colour (iPlayer) A colourised version of the original Daleks story. What's interesting to me is that they didn't just take the 7 original episodes and colour them in, but they cut them to make a single movie of ~75 minutes. They also made other changes. First, they added dramatic and incidental music. In some scenes this really helped build the drama and tension. Second, they included the odd small flashback which added to the drama. For large parts I thought that this must be how Terry Nation imagined it when he was writing. But it all kind of falls apart towards the end. They play the dramatic incidental music over scenes that aren't dramatic at all. But worse, they started cutting out scenes and dialogue with the Thals. The Doctor's big plan at the end about going into the city is almost completely cut out. It gives the final 20 minutes or so a rushed feel to it. It's very interesting and fun. But, having watched it, I asked Scott for his verdict: "The original was better".
  7. Another day another sock puppet. I've disabled my notifications now, as per some recommendations here. Just getting tiresome.
  8. This was my 2023 strategy. I have a couple of celebrities aged 100+ and a fair number over 90. I am currently in joint 111th place.
  9. Let me explain. For courses/modules that are taught, the course leader develops all the material for it on their own - the learning outcomes, the handbook, the lecture material, the assessment, etc. That has not been centralised, nor can it be. Pretty much every professional service has been centralised however. IT, HR, finance, student support, etc. Our academic operations team was centralised so we don't have a local one any more. Someone in this new centralised team has made a new handbook (based on what, I do not know) rather than asking for the proper ones. Then collated all this dross and sent it in. This was all done to make "efficiency savings" followed by a round of VR which has also left these new centralised teams chronically understaffed.
  10. Yes, I always have been. Whoever runs the course makes the handbook. The issue here is that *someone* made a new handbook that was a pile of shite and submitted that, rather than just asking for the proper one.
  11. f**k me I am bored at work today. Hence: Brits amazed after spotting 'Margaret Thatcher' in mum's ironing board on sale for £5
  12. Central team. We've been centralising everything since 2019, and everything has gotten worse.
  13. Could this be the most subtle dumping ever? "Look at the calendar...notice anything? Pack yer bags"
  14. Christmas 'spoilt' for Bedford residents after tree taken every night
  15. When it comes to his own course that he created he really is. He just doesn't want to do much outside of that.
  16. Overnight update - the principal has called a meeting with some top level folk to discuss this later this morning. Apparently they've had an avalanche of folk getting in touch with pretty much the same thing that we've been saying - that the team who pulled together all the information to submit to the accrediting body have fucked up in a massive way. The Prof's angry email is one of many but his is a good example - the accreditors saying there is no textbook associated with his course when he wrote the textbook.
  17. Just don't get them started on breakfast rolls.
