  2. Don’t be complacent, another Covid wave is coming. Here’s how we can manage it
  3. The development of kids at a young age is something parents do worry about far too much. Both my kids couldn't walk until they were over a year old. Make no difference in the long term. But it is all about investment. Invest time in the kids, talk to them, take an interest in them, get interested in what they are interested in, read bedtime stories, introduce them to popular 1960s science fiction franchises and they will develop well. Ignore them and they fall behind. Too many parents are more interested in posting online about their kids than talking to them.
  4. Emma Raducanu. One lucky tournament and mince ever since.
  5. Was I the only one utterly cringing when David Croft went on his "Lewis Hamilton is the GOAT" stuff?
  6. Lots of heavy weather in the news about Hamilton's back. Apparently the technical rules need rewritten for all cars to fix this issue (at least, that is what Mercedes is saying). Other teams have got around this within the technical rules and, of course, they could just raise the ride height. But no - Toto doesn't like the new rules and wants them changed.
  7. My step-daughter has some friends who are like this. They had kids in their late teens or early 20s and simply don't know how to raise them at all. I look at my step-daughter's kids (who can speak, are toilet trained and all that) playing with these kids who are basically treated like big babies. The same age but have had no real parenting. The kids are seen as a source of income, and an annoyance, but no more than that. It is horrible to see. And these parents will sit and complain that social services have been visiting and blame the kids. I heard one actually say that her kid was the cause of these problems because he was "slow". The way these folk talk about their kids is shocking. I've suggested to my step-daughter that she might need new friends.
  8. When I was at school I was told that my fingers were too big to play normal guitar, and so I had to play bass.
  9. My wee girl is doing her first day of transition to High School. She has been very excited/nervous all weekend. Can't believe that it has come so fast.
  10. Don't normally use the spoiler function but will here.
  11. I was puzzling over this when I re read my original post. Won't be long till we are at £200 a litre
  12. Fuel in the Falkirk area is always a little more expensive than elsewhere. I usually fill up in Alloa when visiting my folks as it is usually a penny or two cheaper there. Happened to be in Edinburgh yesterday and went to the Morrisons at the Gyle. Again, Edinburgh is often cheaper by a little. Got a shock when I saw just how much it was in Redding. The Esso garage at Rumford had diesel at 189.9 per litre. Says something when Esso is cheaper than Tesco.
  13. Was in Edinburgh this morning and paid £181.9 per litre of diesel. Back in Falkirk this afternoon, went to Tesco at Redding and diesel was £190.9 per litre. Ridiculous.
  14. My brain checked out in the last episode. Same with my son. The scene in the tunnel just reminded me of The Meg I'm afraid it is just a wee bit dull.
  15. I'm on an autobiography binge. The Path to Power by Margaret Thatcher. Chose to read this after discussing Boris Johnson with my son. Not sure how we got onto the topic but I was explaining that Johnson is spineless scum and Thatcher was, er, spineful scum. Anyway, I thought I'd give it a read. Very interesting, if a touch heavy on economics stuff. More enjoyable than Churchill's books, and loads of lovely spite and venom for folk like Ted Heath. Interesting reading through her stuff about devolution. It was in the Tory manifesto in the early 70s, but she wasn't a fan and ditched the idea even though it meant many Scottish MPs quitting as shadow ministers. Unbelievable nowadays to thank that Scottish Tories were trying to convince her that "an assembly" was a good thing and she was against it on the grounds that it threatened the union (which, I guess, it has).
  16. My favourite was the energy saving tip to put toothpaste in my petrol tank.
  17. Got a coffee at a drive through today. I was halfway down the motorway when I took a sip, and it was only half full.
  18. This was one of the two jobs - and in short, yes. To say we have scared a significant number of students shitless is an understatement. Not just the ones going through the dreaded process.
  19. Read a dissertation this week that looked at plastic waste in the ocean. The next big thing killing sea life is face masks. Even the "paper" blue ones are made of non degradable plastic. I already posted about the penguin, expect more.
  20. Had two massive jobs on the go at work. I have been at them all week, working long hours and stressing like mad. Finished them both last night. I feel like a constipated man who finally managed to push out a cricket ball. I feel much lighter. Stress instantly lifted. And it is sunny here and Friday, so all good.
