  1. Ah sorry. Ebay are selling these. Cannot figure out what fruit goes on these.
  2. Spot on (also called ethylene). Any ripe fruit gives it off and encourages ripening in other fruits but bananas give off relatively large amounts.
  3. I get the sense people are a bit more tense with this current "wave". Hearing more folk talk about it, and a noticeable uptick in the numbers wearing masks in the supermarket today.
  4. An article in the Guardian dedicated to the best movie of all time
  5. We were talking about sleep, which somehow led to talk about how women struggle to sleep when they are up on blocks. Just mortifying.
  6. Conversation with the wife last night. Wife: Do you know how much blood a woman loses during her period? Me: Er, no. Wife: About three tablespoons. Me:
  7. Had the most bizarre thought - what of Boris Johnson decides that the way to stave off being removed from the Tory leadership is to call a snap general election? I really think he might be thinking this. If it's that or waiting on his backbenchers finding a way to oust him, he'll go to the country.
  8. P&B needs a microscopy thread, for sure.
  9. I reckon Div is deliberately slowing down the site so we need to buy the new version when it comes out, like Apple do.
  10. My youngest daughter will be home in 10 minutes, and that'll be her done with primary school. A strange feeling not to have kids of that age any more.
  11. How fancy is your fancy scope? Last year I bought a Zeiss AxioImager that I really love using on weird stuff.
  12. Would have been better if Liam Neeson had shown up at the start of the series, when Princess Leia was Taken.
  13. Have to agree. They started a story and needed a way out. Would have preferred it without the story pish. The one high point for me was seeing more of the engineer, Hemmer. He rescued the end of the episode for me.
  14. SNW continues a long Star Trek tradition of having a complete and utter disaster of an episode in the middle of a series. The first three quarters of that was so bad it was almost unwatchable. The last 5 minutes were poignant though. This one can join Catspaw from the original series, The Royale in The Next Generation and Move Along Home from DS9 as episodes I will just skip and never watch again.
  15. Hayfever is attacking me badly just now. Antihistamines help but only to an extent. My eyes get it the worst. Pollen and cat hair are the worst for me.
  16. He says he ain't going. I believe him. He won't go willingly.
  17. This is an interesting point. I had many more sick days in my old job, which I liked OK but wasn't that fussed about, compared to my current one which I like a lot more.
  18. The guy working on my house said he would be here first thing. He showed up at 10.45 to tell me he needed to pick something up before getting started. He has literally just started the job. 3pm.
  19. Fishing for an update on the Prof? That man has taken years off my life. But today, for some reason, I have been copied into a conversation between him and a senior colleague. No idea why, but seeing the Prof utterly destroy this guy has been really very amusing. I guess it's funny when it happens to someone else. And seeing the other guy get increasingly, by increments, frustrated and angry has for some reason I cannot explain amused me no end. The guy is a complete tool; and I for one am glad that the Prof has done some good and ruined his day. The best bit is, the substance of the matter is so unbelievably petty.
