  1. This is just the first price hike we'll see. As supermarkets, say, see their energy bills rising, they'll raise their prices to compensate. Not seen a penny of the government's alleged help either. Don't expect to - Falkirk are giving money only to those who receive council tax reductions. I am not sure if this is the same approach as elsewhere and/or England. I get targeting the poorest with help is the priority, but there are many working people are now facing bill rises of, what £50 a month or more? And they're getting no help, just an NI rise to look forward to and rampant inflation.
  2. As this is a local election, people have license to vote for good local candidates regardless of what party they represent. But still there are people who can't bring themselves to vote for certain candidates because of the party they represent. The example of @Hawk89 - you have a good local candidate but hesitate because he's Labour. There will be others who hesitate to vote for this or that person because of their party. The election leaflets don't help - got the Tory one in and it's all about Indyref 2. Who cares? This election isn't about independence. Or any other national topic. Just think about this - has your local council governed well? Are the councillors you have dealt with helped? This should be what matters. For me, the SNP are a shambles of a national government but my local SNP councillor has been active and helped a lot over recent years. I'd like that person to stay, so will vote for him.
  3. In October my contract came up for renewal and I did so, for 2 years. on a fixed tariff. Feel like I'm lucky as shortly after all this, the prices started climbing. Just an update on something I have posted about before on other threads - the Thermaflow system. Installed to council houses in non-gas areas of Falkirk about 10 years ago and led to massive increases in energy bills for people who are in deprived areas, along with poor performance and many breakdowns. The council have now said that these residents can change to an air source heat pump with solar panels and battery or, in some areas, get gas installed. I think this is good news? Folk going for the ASHP can get it in the next few months, folk getting gas need to wait 2 years at least. Not sure how good an air source heat pump is. In the meantime, if prices keep rocketing these folk (who were paying £400-600 pcm before the prices started climbing) will be even more screwed than before.
  4. We had a virgin technician out a couple of weeks ago to install a new box as the last one died. While he was here he checked the hub and said we were not getting the wi fi signal we should. He installed some kind of booster there and then, which has to be plugged in. Far better ever since. Even upstairs.
  5. My son will have his first ever vote at these elections. No clue who he will punt for. Being 16 he might just draw a cock and bollocks on the ballot paper. Like his dad will.
  6. Her being in gives you time to read the 768 pages of this thread start to finish. You'll be a parenting whizz by the end of it.
  7. First Hello Fresh meal done. Not impressed. Easy enough to make but just tasteless. Agree with @Sergeant Wilson - it was two thirds of a portion.
  8. You wanted to know what was happening and if it was finished. Easiest way would be to @ me so I can say.

  10. Not sure what to make of the colour scheme here...
  11. At least @ me when mentioning. I've dialled back the posting about him after a few posts like this one.
  12. A bit of perspective 75 Covid-related deaths (not necessary deaths as a result of contracting it) out of 1,152. Excess deaths well down. Surely this counts as low risk, unless we as a nation have decided to abolish death completely.
  13. Congratulations! This is great news. The emergency C section sounds a bit scary and rough and hope you all got through it OK.
  14. Can you clarify - are you saying that lower class people are more prone to this than middle class folk, or that the middle class have this perception of the lower class?
  15. Still time for it to be cancelled this year...#Omicron
  16. I had all of this with my step daughter. I used to get really irate about things like a messy room. I took her phone off her and all of that. If I could do it all again, I'd be more relaxed about it all. Reward is the way to go. You want me to buy what? Let's talk once the room is clean / you have done a chore. I am much more chilled with my youngest two. Whenever something comes up that they want, say a new PlayStation game, they come asking what chores they can do to earn money for it.
  17. This guy is clearly just taking the piss.
  18. From memory one was the head of a shielder's advocacy group and the other was an ordinary shielder.
  19. Imagine spending years at university, learning. Imagine then getting a prized place as a PhD student. Then imagine that your job is to collect and count hamster sperm.
