  1. Re the Jagzone World live-stream getting binned (fucking boooo btw) the statement says there is no broadcasting deal in place for the championship yet jagzone subscribers will get to see extended highlights of every game. Howzat? Who’ll be filming the games?
  2. Pig-Pen from Peanuts for me in the sweep. ‘He’s pure wan ae us, man’
  3. Just finished Rabbit at Rest, the last in John Updike's magnum opus, the Rabbit tetralogy. Highly recommended. Much perceptive insight into the human (well, male) condition.
  4. Good shout. Dundee win two in a row while we pick up 4 (or 6) points. Then the Dees gift us a last-day win. County doon. Accies in the playoff. Everyone's a winner.
  5. Go for it. Don't know which book you have but all the ones I've read have been short, engaging yarns... I've heard people criticising Modiano for all his books being very similar. but you could level that against plenty of writers.
  6. L'Amiral, a short novel by the great Blaise Cendrars, set on an ocean liner sailing from Brazil to Europe. Cendrars' autobiographical novels are awesome. Prior to that, Un Cirque Passe by Modiano, which takes place in a dreamlike vibe, and before that Rabbit is Rich by Updike, the third in a cracking quartet (quadrilogy?) about an unassuming American guy, one volume published each ten years.
  7. Right, we all piling in on Erskine for the lolz? He just got my vote.
  8. When some guy from the council ruled that Maximum Occupancy was 236, was he taking Club Bounce nights into consideration?
  9. Each day, my wife gives my 9 year-old son clean pants to put on. She recently found a stash of them under his bed. Turns out he prefers his "soiled" ones. Scum. Sub-human scum.
  10. fwiw, the snow has provoked travel chaos in the Alps. Got on the bus to Geneva at 7.30, which limped through a blizzard for a while, then I asked to get off and strolled back home. Colleagues at work are telling me they spent 3 hours travelling in. Dunces. I've been drinking wine all afternoon.
  11. Celebrating Chriatmas in Lima with some Pisco sours (a damn fine cocktail), a bottle of Freixenet cava I brought with me, and the least offensive Argentinian red wine I could find in the local supermarket. Felices fiestas, cuntos
  12. I'm inclined to agree, hence why I wondered if wine's alcohol content was less in those days. His contemporary Blaise Cendrars tells similar yarns of driving around France, necking wine by the litre.
  13. Reading Hem, he seems to have got through mad quantities of booze. Made me think maybe wine was less alcoholic back then. That, or he was lying, or he was some sort of superman.
  14. Where I live now, I like this place (former prison)
  15. I'll raise you the towers of Park Church and Trinity College, as seen from the Firhill shed, as seen in your profile pic.
  16. I'll be in Peru at the inlaws. The Peruvians get many food things right, but this one spectacularly wrong. The meal starts after midnight on Christmas Eve/Day, so you're bored/starving/knackered. The food itself is OK - turkey, candied sweet potato, rice, potato salad. But nobody drinks, apart from a tiny glass of Peruvian "champagne". All in all, it's a shit state of affairs and a real missed opportunity
  17. 1. Yes 2. Yes. Our exchange student, Berndt. He fucking hated Tennents. 3. No Anyway, I digress... >>>
  18. You know how Germans, when they're in Scotland, like sampling our fine lager? No, neither do I.
  19. What are the pros and cons of Glasgow? Pros: Culture, entertainment, humour, social fabric, scenery (Loch Lomond etc), tenement buildings Cons: Some miserably blighted areas, weather, Old Firm ground zero Which are the best areas/worst areas to live? Best: West End, South Side. Anywhere within a 15-minute walk of Glasgow Uni is v sound. How can I avoid most of the old firm cretins? Avoid their ghettos. Shun pished-stained drunks.
  20. But what "level" is it at? Is anyone other than a knuckle-dragger a member? It's neither mainstream, aspirational, growing or relevant. It's fading away. Shame.
