  1. I struggle with this advert too - it's very difficult to portray the local company/service position without coming across as parochial. I can assure you that their Inverurie showroom bears absolutely no resemblance to what you see in the advert. Close your eyes and try and imagine what it's like from the sound only and you'll probably conjure up a pretty realistic image.
  2. Minder episodes had some great titles which were puns on common phrases, famous films etc ... The Beer Hunter, The Birdman of Wormwood Scrubs, Senior Citizen Caine, An Officer and a Car Salesman, A Bird in the Hand is Worth Two in Shepherd's Bush etc
  3. Fair point but Brexit and the Tories success in the last General Election were driven as much, if not more, by voters in the north of England.
  4. I've been a bit disappointed by this. For me it jumps about from character to character too much. I imagine they're trying to show the impact on individuals and their families but it makes it a bit difficult to follow any storyline. I can see now where they're going with the homeless couple but what's the story with the Mark Addy character? He seems to be on the verge of announcing or doing something major but it's not really creating any drama. There's also a noticeable inconsistency in the level and type of PPE that characters wear in certain scenes. Perhaps the final episode will bring it together.
  5. I'm surprised to see Celtic so far down the list. Regardless of any Old Firm bias I've always accepted that the successful teams in any league will inevitably get more penalties on the basis that they are in their opponents' penalty area more often. Aberdeen's position in this table is also interesting - my gut instinct has been that they get more penalties that my Aberdeen supporting friends would have me believe. I'm always intrigued as to who carries out these surveys so I looked up the CIES Football Observatory. They turn out to be 4 people based in a palatial office in Neuchatel, Switzerland whose mission is "to advance the frontiers of knowledge for the sustainable development of football worldwide." How do such organisations come to exist?
  6. In terms of results and style of play Miller was a dreadful manager at Hibs and Aberdeen yet somehow went on to a coaching role in a Champions League winning team.
  7. While there has been communication it has not been particularly helpful. Reading it again I see that the SYFA are basically just passing on information from the SFA in relation to grass roots football. As per Junior Pub League post there is probably little that the SYFA can say or do independently at this time. I agree with you that the lack of any timescale is frustrating, even if it was just confirm no change until end of August (as an example). Unfortunately my instinct is that grass roots team sports will be one of the last areas to escape the lockdown.
  8. As a youth coach I've been aware of several updates from the SYFA - checking my emails I see at least 3 announcements during April and May.
  9. An older guy I worked with would annoyingly reply 'absolutely average' to that question. Still, it could be mildly amusing with people he didn't know as it often triggered a look of confused worry as to whether he might be seriously ill (or just a bit strange).
  10. Paolo Maldini was a decent tennis player - after retirement he played doubles in a couple of low key ATP tournaments.
  11. Great pictures and not much change over 20 years. That old tin shed to the right of the stand had a good innings.
  12. Pretty sure he was an academic or other ‘expert’. If I'm thinking of the same photo I'm pretty sure that the zoomed in section was photo-shopped to make it look they were all dodgy titles.
  13. Over the weekend I saw several adverts for Britain's Best Parents, starting this week on Channel 4. I have no intention of watching but you can be sure it will feature some of the most disagreeable people ever to appear on television.
  14. He was in the 1982 World Cup Squad too and played in the first game against New Zealand.
  15. Or add a letter, particularly 'R' as in countries like Chinar or Indiar.
  16. Wouldn’t have objected to that. Fash is an utter fucking oddball. Caught part of a documentary on BT Sport last night about the Wimbledon Crazy Gang - Fashanu was and probably still is an absolutely horrible character.
  17. I plan to watch it later but I caught 5-10 minutes of it last night when it was recording. It looked like a crazy, crazy job to have taken on so I'm looking forward to watching the whole programme.
  18. Salary caps are open to all kinds of enforcement and manipulation issues even in sports where it is recognised (see Premiership Rugby in England). If it were to come into force I'll be looking to buy shares in any company that makes large, brown envelopes.
  19. During lockdown I've been watching some of the old football from 70s and 80s being shown by Sky, BT Sport etc. You'll Never Walk Alone seems to be sung during quite a lot of matches involving various teams.
  20. My previous work used to have an annual briefing day which always had a section on safety. One year they had a Fire Office come along and his presentation was on the Bradford fire - it certainly made you think about a lot of the places you might frequent.
  21. Probably is - but these are the main players in Scotland in 2019/20 (Except Thomson of course). UPDATE - If I read the SFA website correctly only Category One referees can cover SPFL games. Taking 42 teams that theoretically requires 21 referees per week before you think about injuries, availability, travelling for UEFA or FIFA duties etc. I'd guess there are > 30 Category One referees in Scotland but I take your point that most of us will never see or hear of quite a number of them.
  22. I've no idea where I might find a definitive and reliable list but I'm pretty sure there must be more than 15 category 1 referees in Scotland.
  23. The best pair won, they came across as really genuine guys and their donation to charity is a great gesture. I was please the annoying 'bunhead blonde' didn't win.
  24. Not many Dutch accents at all.
  25. When you can't remember what it's for that's the ultimate definition of a pish advert. Same with the one with the little plastic figure that slides down windows, I never remember what it's about.
