  1. (am not event sure if it was intended to be funny)
  2. or more specifically, not interested in playing for the U21s....
  3. I don't see what it serves by calling him up to the U21s and giving him more games and more travelling to do. He is good enough for the senior squad and therefore should be called up for that. If he isn't - for whatever reason Clarke has (which is entirely Clarke's jusdgement as it should be even if I don't agree with it) - then it doesn't automatically mean he should continue to be called up or included in the U21 squad just because he meets the age requirements. I don't have a problem with him not making himself available for an U21 squad call-up. If he was called up to the senior squad and declined then I would have stronger views. I hope the SFA and ultimately Clarke don't get petty over this but I get the impression from their past dealings that Gemmil/SFA might.
  4. BINGO!!! (and nice to see an injection of fresh thinking and terminology enter into the debate)
  5. I can see we are both miles apart in terms of how we assess the enormity of what is happening in Ukraine (which is surprising given that all of Europe was potentially facing a nuclear fall out last week). Maybe best to leave it there rather than go round in circles about fulfilling fixtures in the international calendar.
  6. if you approach it as a business as usual situation as you seem to be bizarrely doing then yes, am sure it is impossible. However if you approach it from the perspective that two European countries are at war resulting in thousands of deaths and the largest mass migration of people since WW2, then I consider exceptional arrangements would be made to accommodate additional international fixtures.
  7. their country is being invaded by a hostile force. If they are over-run, as is likely, then the situation needs to be assessed at that point. A possibility is to re-do the whole play-off draw with Russians now banned and Ukraine unable to fulfil fixtures - but that doesn't necessarily mean Ukraine forfeiting any qualification hope. Fixture congestion is a minor issue - if play-offs are needed at any point in the future then it just needs the the relevant football associations to agree on dates. There are a number of options and contingencies that can be considered. For how honouring a date for a Winter WC play-off is not a priority and no reasonably minded person should consider it one.
  8. I should clarify I was being sarcastic. There is no way the Ukrainians should be asked to forfeit at any point. I think you need to look at the situation outside the bubble of fixture congestion.
  9. I agree - the Ukrainians really need to sort out their priorities and stop stringing us along.
  10. 5/10 for me. agree that Pattinson was good when Batman. As Wayne he just seemed like a slight variation on Edward. Much better than the Affleck/Snyder Batman iterations - which wouldn't be hard - but no where near as good as Nolan/Bale. On the latter, yes different type of interpretation where in the Reeves' version it is very much Batman the detective but I am not sure that is best applied to a cinematic outing (or at least one at almost 3 hours in length). Without spoilers: Pros - Jeffrey Wright/Commissioner Gordon - Pattinson as Batman and the suit - the hand to hand corridor/gangway fighting action sequences - the Necropolis and some other Glasgow settings - avoiding (yet another) lengthy origins segment Cons - Serkis as Alfred - the muscle car as the Batmobile - Turturro is a fine actor but thought he was miscast as Falcone - revelations around Thomas Wayne's death - how many time have we returned to this (at least there were no pearls dropping) - Batman and Gordon staring at yet another clue/card or a board - Gotham was grim looking, wet and dark- as it should be and I know Batman is invariably patrolling at night but the dark/wet/grimness started to grind on me after a while. The church scene set during the day made me long for different settings Anyway probably being too picky on the first viewing of something I was really looking forward to. Maybe if revisiting at home in a wee while my rating/opinion will change.
  11. am sure this has been discussed before but why is this thread titled "...babes"? I can see that it has been running for 12 years, so am assuming "babe" was a commonly used term at the time or was it based on a saying? I thought "babe" when referring to women was a Wayne's World briefly lived term from about 20 odd years ago....
  12. Celtic's dubious goals, countless penalties and mysteriously added injury time when pushing for a goal is always down to some "reasonable" explanation, according to their fans. When it happens to Rangers, the game/ref is rotten to the core.
  13. A "fan" of a team yet so desperate to see one of their player's fail and revel in any perceived poor performance. Of course it is trolling but seems bizarre when trying to be taken so seriously on other TA threads. Assuming he is not injured, Gilmour will be in the next Scotland squad and more than likely will start - whenever that game will be. And Scotland as a team will be all the better for his inclusion. I haven't come across one (actual) Scotland fan who doesn't think that.
  14. Discovery is just awful. There has emerged a real movement of support for Discovery on social media which seems to be linked to the LGBTQ and trans movement. Criticism of Discovery is usually met with accusations of being a homophobic or anti-trans from what I have seen. Must admit I don't really understand the nuances of the group but whatever their core cause is, it clearly blinds them to the awful plots and stories.
  15. It was a little uneven - similar to season 1. The self reflective Picard moments - which presumably is what attracted Patrick Stewart to returning - are quite dull and for a character who is notoriously private, doesn't over-share and hates talking about himself, he does it a hell of a lot in this show. However it is balanced out by the story-arc which looks great and of course the return of you-know-who at the end. I forgot how Season 1 tied everything up. Did they all end up joining/returning to Starfleet or is that something we learned going into Season 2?
  16. He (Gunn) is not very good either, from what I have seen. Admittedly that hasn't been much but if he were breaking into a top 6 team in Germany, France, Italy or England I could understand the hope of him switching allegiances. As things stand, it is like desperately hoping that say Macey at Hibs has a Scottish grannie - all a bit meh and Liam Kelly probably a better option in any case.
  17. Regarding Cieran Slikcer’s current age, he is 19 years old as of 2021. He was born in Oldham, England, in 2002. And Slicker celebrates his birthday on September 15 every year. Slicker was involved in football at the age of seven as he was always passionate about it. Meanwhile, Slicker grew up idolizing England goalie Joe Hart.
  18. I would be happy with Marshall, Henderson, Gauld, Hickey and Jack being included. However realistically (given Clarke rarely deviates from a tried and tested bunch of squad players and the fact it is a play-off will only reinforce that approach) only Jack and Marshall have a good chance of being included - even if a number of squad players remain out injured. You would say that we are looking a little bare up front but if Dykes and Christie look likely to make it then, the squad won't be too different from the Denmark game which means probably Brown also. More generally, I would say Marshall and Mclaughlin; Jack in for perhaps Turnbull or McLean depending on McTominay. Hendry even though he is currently on the bench will be selected as cover for Hanley and Tierney if Cooper fails to make it.
  19. its a minefield out there. He believes he is being inventive by using the "round of applause as we left" trope but that has now been used to death for perhaps a year to poke fun at those that genuinely appear as DHOTYA candidates. At the same time there are still posts in all seriousness re kids aged 3 coming out with some world weary sage advice for their proud "moms" to refer to as evidence of their superb parenting (which just happens to conform to their political/religious etc leanings) - these folks are completely unaware of how these tweets are routinely viewed by many now. And the "genuine" ones as well as the ones done for mocking value, all end up on DHOYTA. Then to complicate things your boy Carl posts this in one of his follow-up comments as a joke on the gender identity of his real or fictitious son: This, in terms of self-awareness and how some others perceive it or cringe at it, isn't that far away from your mom making up a life-affirming statement that her kid said. Suppose we all live in our social media bubbles.
  20. I think in the interests of "realism" and with a greater focus on continuity am finding the opposite to this; the mildest form of exertion in one scene - a minor scuffle for example - is followed-up in the next scene by the characters involved gasping for breath as if they had just come out of a 200m sprint.
  21. whenever a name is suggested for something and within seconds someone offers a variation on Boaty McBoatface (or whatever the f**k it was).
  22. I won't deny that I do enjoy capturing exchanges such as this.
