Fair enough, but that's a pessimistic take. He is divisive, certainly, but I don't think it'll have folks moving to any other party in great numbers.

I don't get this. He's never getting near the reins of power. Might it not actually help the Greens, they're pro-indy already so if they raise their profile they could get votes from disaffected SNP voters?

This is a tricky one. I don't doubt Salmond's desire for an independent Scotland, so at face value another Indy party is a good thing. Especially as there's going to be massive media interest which means independence being a very visible narrative in the lead up to the election. That there will be different hopes for an Indy Scotland is also no bad thing and it should get discussion going. I'm concerned about who is going to be standing for election and where. As long as the media interest is a bit better than the Daily Express, running with "Salmond forms new party to take down Nicola Sturgeon - SNP election blow" but it'll probably be variations on that theme.
