TROGDOR!!!! There were times during that game when I allowed myself a faint hope that I might get a draw out of it. How naive of me. I even managed to (briefly) promote a pawn, but still lost. It would've been less cruel to just hammer me rather than having 1 v 2 pawns at the end. Well played, though. Dearyme defeats Board_stupid by resignation.

Division A Board_stupid defeats Ziggy_The_Spider by resignation. I'm not sure what to say other than I think that's the best I've ever managed to play. There were no dramatic moves or big material gains, but ended up with Ziggy pushed back in a difficult position.

Division A Board_stupid defeats gkneil by resignation. It was a tale of two errors, one at the start with a gift of a bishop and one at the end with a rook. In between @gkneil fought back to roughly even before the second decisive mistake.

I hope there's a blue plaque on a wall in Auchinleck to commemorate this progress. You'll be like a celebrity there now.

If you fire off a game invite to him I'm sure he'll pick it up and get the game started. You don't need to wait for one game to finish before starting another btw (Ziggy will be able to vouch for the ability to have multiple games on the go). Incidentally @N5 Spur and @GallowayBlue it looks like your game was the wrong way round in terms of black/white - the home team plays as white. Unless Frank has a different view I'd suggest that you play the return fixture the opposite way to even it up when it's scheduled in a few weeks' time.

Division A Board_stupid defeats beef2711 by checkmate. It felt like an even game until an opportune check allowed me to get on the front foot which ended up being the difference. Pleased to get early points on the board in what will be a difficult season.

We should probably have the 9 in the top division as there's 9 players with a reasonable claim to be there.

I'm excited by this new approach of signing fans from the terraces. This can be the inspiration to up the training regime to prove that it's still not too late to get signed.

The supreme satisfaction of sending a small item of rubbish in a perfect arc into a bin or waste paper basket saving yourself a few steps and a couple of seconds of valuable time while clinging on to the slim hope that it's not too late for a career in the NBA. Doubly satisfying if it's from a seated rather than standing position.

Division A Eindhovendee defeats Board_stupid by checkmate. I tried a knight sacrifice to open up the defence which was probably a bit reckless, but made for an interesting game. I paid for it in the end though. That concludes my league campaign so many thanks to Frank for organising. Thanks also to all my opponents for the games. Everyone in this division is a good player and you all caused me a great deal of stress, but in a good way and you're helping me improve my game. A special mention to Dearyme and eindhovendee who both beat me home and away, I couldn't lay a glove on either of you. Another mention is due to el_scorgio who, in one game, had 3 book moves followed by 22 consecutive best moves, the last of which delivered checkmate. It was an absolute lesson. tl:dr birthday caird pish
