  1. Finn took the absolute piss out of Smith in that game. That passage near the end where he drop kicked, hit the post, Smith had the chance to start a counter but Finn read the play and produced a 50-22 just summed it all up. Levels.
  2. Chuffed for Ferguson and hope he gets more chances with the NT. I remember when he was at Aberdeen pundits would fairly regularly compare him to his uncle and dad and say that he was nowhere near either of their levels. If he continues with his current trajectory, in a couple of years, it could end up being a conversation about whether he’s eclipsed the both of them.
  3. I mean, Gilmour is rapid, so….
  4. Is this not the same injury that Gilmour had at a similar age?
  5. He really needs to up his game. It’s embarrassing. Ross County just came from having a manager that was 100x more handsome. 100X!
  6. The defensive side to his game was noticeably good tonight. Interceptions, clever tackles and even sticking the boot in and coming out on top. Adding that to his already good in possession play and he’s becoming a special player. Let’s hope he continues this trajectory, because since the international break he seems to have gone up a level.
  7. Ah, fair enough. I looked at their upcoming fixtures but there was nothing listed past March.
  8. Don’t know what their June schedule is like, but a game against the USA could be a decent shout. Good level but one we could look to win and many of their players are europe based these days. Would only work if we didn’t have to travel to them, though.
  9. We’re gonnae be their wake up call. Germany will still be shite against us, lose and then they’ll go on to win the tournament. Ideal.
  10. Let’s meet our mascot: Its Scotland Rugby stand off Duncan Weir!
  11. Hope we draw those three countries flying the white flag
  12. Free to air is a misnomer. It’d be paid for from a combination of the license fee and everyone’s taxes. With that in mind, it is very much the government’s prerogative to prioritise things like this on cultural and even health based grounds as it should be encouraging more people to participate through watching. One of my earliest memories of the national team was Scotland hammering a team (I think John Collins scored) live on the BBC. As soon as the game was over, I was out back with a ball. Kids all over Scotland should have the opportunity to see their national team and then be inspired to then try playing it. More people playing sport = less people with chronic diseases such as diabetes etc. The ‘something for nothing’ argument is asinine Tory nonsense imported from the USA. Also worth mentioning that since all of the other ways of watching football are already behind a paywall. It’d be the only opportunity for some to see the likes of Robertson, Tierney, McGinn etc (not to mention top level opposition players) in a live game. I take the point about watching in a pub, except for the fact that drinks are fast approaching the cost of a subscription for the month!
  13. Not to be overly controversial, but I wouldn’t mind seeing Christie in for McGregor at some point. Christie has been playing a similar role for Bournemouth of late and as much as McGregor is still one of the first names on the sheet for me, he has had a couple of games recently where IMO he looked a wee bit off it compared to usual (norway and Spain away). Always good to have other options in each position and Christie has been doing a lot of similar defensive work for Bournemouth to McGregor in that role for Scotland. Back four, Christie and Gilmour in the 2, then McTom, McGinn & Ferguson ahead of them with Dykes up top.
  14. “This thing can f**k 12 Dunfermline fans” ?
  15. I’d imagine, given the general quality of teams in Europe, that we’re going to end up in a group of similar quality to the last euros, no matter which pot we’re in. The difference, though, is that the squad is better than it was then and outwith France, England and probably Portugal, I’d fancy our chances against almost everyone else for at least some kind of result. If we’d beaten the Czechs, we’d have gone through to the next round. That’s the only difference we really need this time around and I’d say Ukraine, Denmark and Spain are all better than that Czech team.
  16. Thought he looked good in flashes but as said above, was very much on the periphery. For his first involvement, he absolutely skinned the defender. He had a volley that looked on target but blocked by a defender and he’s also not afraid to put in a tackle. There might be an element of his teammates still not looking for him yet/not fully trusting him, but that’ll come with time. Wouldn’t be surprised if the half time sub was pre-arranged tbh since he’s just coming back from an injury.
  17. If it comes to the crunch, they’ll get picked, unless Kirk is making the selections.
  18. Clarke and Carver at Hampden this afternoon. Given there’s so few Scots on the field you’d have to presume that it’s maybe Barron that they’re looking at? He’s been good recently and while it’s still probably too soon and he still has some developing to do, he seems a potential good fit for taking on the McGregor role long term.
