  1. He didn’t have a lot of the ball as they seemed to be using the other wing more, but one thing I did notice was that as soon as he got on the pitch, he muscled Colwill off the ball high up the pitch and then got it to a teammate which started an attack. As has been said before, the fact that Klopp trusts him for a match of that magnitude says a lot. Hopefully more minutes to come in the next week or two and if he can nick a wee goal or assist he might get some regular sub appearances.
  2. I don’t think we really need to worry about Scotland fans getting over hyped on this guy - there seems to be plenty of Liverpool fans and journalists doing that already! It seems that Klopp really rates him, though, calling him the future to Andy Robertson’s present of Scottish football. I hope that means that he’ll get some decent first team minutes this season and if he does, I’d imagine he’d have a very good chance of a slot at the euros. How he’s played in the remaining preseason games for them should give us a decent idea of his status in the first team for the season ahead.
  3. Yeah, that’s fair. I suppose the guarantee of minutes must’ve been a factor in this and considering he’s only been playing youth football until now, that’s got to be a good thing.
  4. Agree with pretty much all of this except I think that with the current squad, plus hopefully adding a couple of the more promising youngsters, we should be aiming to be in that group with the Swiss and Denmark for a good while. Over the past few years, each young player coming in has been an improvement on what we had before. If we can continue that trend in a couple of key positions (ie centre back and striker/attacker - thinking Liam Morrison, Rory Wilson and Ben Doak off the top of my head) I think it’d be doable. Still a few years until we’d see that, but I think it should be the target and is starting to seem more realistic.
  5. The current Scotland captain did a season at Queen’s Park when he was the same age. Ended up at a better team than Bayern. Too early to write him off either way.
  6. I think he’s done enough tonight to justify his loan move to rangers or Huddersfield (GIRFUY numbers guy, Barry Ferguson guy and Road travelled guy)
  7. Harsh on Christie, who has been very good recently, but this is the midfield we should be using going forward.
  8. Is DeBruyne the only player that city don’t have a suitable replacement? Bet if you asked Inzaghi, he’d rather he went off than Haaland.
  9. I’d wondered if a June game would suit Norway because their domestic league has a summer season, but only two of their starting 11 from Tuesday are based in Norway, everyone else plays elsewhere in Europe and on the same schedule as our players. So, really it’ll boil down to how everyone finishes their season. If either Odegaard or Haaland are missing then I’d say we’re favourites. If they’re both available, it’ll be tight. Georgia at home is crucial, though. I saw a bit of the second half between them and Norway and my take away was that they’re fairly gung ho - it won’t be 10 men behind the ball from them, which should create opportunities for us. Kvaratskhelia is electric, but he doesn’t have Osimhen or the rest of the Napoli side to play with. They were decent, though. I think we should be aiming for at least 7pts from the next three games and if we get that, we’re almost qualified. Hopefully Georgia away will be too late in our schedule for it to f**k us up!
  10. Fair play to the guy. Has been asked to play in a variety of positions by Steve Clarke and has just got on with it. He’s just happy to be playing for Scotland. Delighted for him.
  11. Scott McTominay scores his second goal of the night and his thoughts turn to this thread..: ”Time to go to Steve Clarke” …says it all about what the players think to be honest…
  12. He was excellent. …and he chose his moment well to get it right up them, with giving the wee Spanish guy a hug. Guy was ragin after that.
  13. Pretty happy with that line up. Christie will run himself ragged and was excellent in the Denmark game in both defence and attack. Spain only fielding 4 players gives me hope.
  14. Robert Burns really was prophetic…: I doubt na, whyles, but thou may thieve; What then? poor beastie, thou maun live! A Cieran Slicker with a save ’S a sma’ request: I’ll get a blessin wi’ the lave, An’ never miss ’t!
  15. You do know that now you’ve posted a silver lining, one of the usual losers is going to have to post a cloud…?
  16. Which, given his injury record, could end up as a net benefit for Scotland.
  17. He’s not correct. He’s a troll. Doak lost the ball a few of times, but one of which, he went back and recovered it which in itself was fairly impressive. Other than that, he added more energy and linked fairly well. Looked a better option than Chamberlain anyway. He does look a bit lightweight at times, but that isn’t surprising for his age. He was also on the left - is he not a right winger? I was surprised that Klopp didn’t put Gakpo on the left, Salah in the middle and Doak on the right. Still a positive that he got more minutes even though Liverpool were all over the place.
  18. Chamberlain’s been woeful. Here comes Doak…
  19. From watching this Brighton Liverpool game it seems that somehow Gilmour’s managed to leave Chelsea and end up at a better side… Brighton playing some brilliant stuff and Gilmour would likely get more minutes at Chelsea at the moment. that could change fairly quickly though if either caicedo or macallister leave
  20. I think you’re both right. Nothing wrong with being ambitious as long as it’s also tempered by pragmatism. Target should be to win a tournament - expectation should be getting out of the group stage. setting the bar too low is what’s bred the mediocrity we’ve dealt with for 20 odd years.
  21. Sounds like Nunez is a doubt for tomorrow. Hopefully that means more minutes for Doak - would be interested to see what he could do with more than just a few minutes at the end of a game.
  22. It’s more than 2, but on the whole you’re correct. I’ve put so many posters on ignore off the back of this thread that it reads like Craig Burley’s teeth. on topic: de zerbi has said quite a lot of positive things about Gilmour so hopefully more chances will come. But it’s been a crappy season and a bit for him.
  23. If this baby didn’t have the gumption to get themselves born in Scotland then they’re obviously not committed enough to the cause.
  24. They say that you make your own luck, however: He starts playing for Chelsea, getting man of the match each time and then covid comes along. Season restarts, he plays a couple of games then gets a long term injury. Back in time to play for Scotland in the euros, gets MoM against England but then can’t play against Croatia because he gets covid. Decides he needs more playing time so gets that move to Norwich, who were absolutely shite. Forces a move from Chelsea because he’s not in Tuchel’s plans, goes to Brighton where the manager publicly rates him only for Tuchel to get sacked and that manager, Potter, to bugger off to Chelsea a few days later! The final irony being that as of right now, Brighton’s midfield is probably stronger than Chelsea’s and he’d possibly have more chance starting for them at the moment….!
