On the subject of how to pronounce brand names, over the last year or so Skoda have been putting heavy emphasis on it being pronounced "Sh-koda" in their adverts, which they must know they are on a hiding to nothing as nobody is going to start saying it like that.

I remember when Nestle's was pronounced 'Nessels'. Then they started insisting it be 'Nes-lay'. Result - everybody still pronounces it 'Nessels'.

Unsure if this was a joke or not but I’ve never heard anyone say ‘Nessels’.

Maybe in the D household, but no one else has ever pronounced it "Nessels". Ever.

My granny used to call it Nessels but that should in no way be used to support your theory based on how she (mis)pronounced many things.

It was always pronunced Nessels........Nessels Milk...Nessels Cofe Mate

When did Nestlé change pronunciation?

The exact date of the change is a matter of debate. Until the 1980s Nestlé was pronounced “Nestles” on Milkybar television advertising, but “Nestlé” on advertising for other Nestlé products.

Just me then? (And hk blues's granny.)

Had a bit of a Mandela moment and thought "You know what, Gordon is right here. It was always Nessels Milky Bar in the adverts"

Pish from the 1980s.

However, the 1979 advert did call it Nessels so, Gordon, you are off the hook for the time being. Zoom to 26 seconds or thereabouts.

I'm sure I can remember* "Nessels Milky Bar" adverts with the wee blonde dude dressed up as a cowboy.

A worker at the Nestlè factory was trapped for 3 hours under a pallet of chocolate after colleagues ignored his cries for help.

Apparently every time he called out the “milky bars are on me “ they just clapped and cheered .

Thank you! I did look on YouTube but all it came back with was American adverts and you can't trust anything they say.
