Who's Going To Uni?

Recommended Posts

Was at Stirling University on Wednesday for a friends birthday and despite the shitehole accommodation it has the most beautiful campus I've ever visited. I'd heard lots of criticism from people that had attended the open days and moved elsewhere blaming the campus but I don't see what people had a problem with.

Stirling Uni is one of the best places to be in the country on a sunny day. It really is a tremendous campus.

The halls are what put people off because they're so dull but halls are shite wherever you go, get over it.

I managed to get my HRM report done. It was dull but it's a half decent report. The only downside is that I uploaded it to MyPlace at 10:45pm, then went back on MyPlace a few minutes ago with it saying I had uploaded it at 11:59pm. It's in red type meaning it has been uploaded late, so that's a 5% deduction right there.

Really? I find the socialists to be incredibly noisy at Glasgow. There were alot of candidates from the "OurGlasgow" campaign, I don't know much about htem, but they seem like the mad anti-cuts end of the socialists.

Chizzy didn't win, I chickened out of voting for him, but I didn't realise he finished 3rd. Please tell me he beat Dhillon, that would be exceptionally pleasing!

This was his genuine manifesto.

Would have fucking loved the party gondolas and the carrier owls.

Still somewhat disappointed he didn't win. I remember him walking up to me and my mate during the election and asking us if we'd voted, we said 'no' and he announced he was running. We asked him what he was running for and couldn't help but burst out laughing when he announced it was for president.

In fact thinking about it I'm kind of surprised he didn't win. Considering most folk who vote for these things would be pretty unaware of the on-goings of the SRC surely a lot of folk base their votes on thinks like an amusing manifesto or a funny picture. What else do people have to go on?

I'm at Dundee and I'd say from what I've seen that Stirling halls are comfortably worse. We don't have a massive fucking lake though so advantage Stirling.

I don't think I've been in any other Uni's halls (actually, I have been in Dundee's, but I was too wasted to remember it).

What is it that makes Stirling's poorer?

I was under the impression that all Halls were more or less the same; one shitty bed, a desk and a computer chair. Possibly a sink for pissing in. The only thing I can really imagine being that much better would be an en suite shower.

In fairness, alot of people were worried given the Ritchie debacle and just wanted someone in to sort out the mess a little - I actually voted for Helle, who actually somehow finished behind Chizzy. The socialists were obviously out in force since Dhillon finished 2nd.

Having lived in Stirling's halls and Glasgow's halls I'd say Stirling's are better.

More fun, better location and no security guards checking your room constantly for the heinous crime of having your window open. mad.gif

Whit? That never happened to me when I was there!

So I've just checked my exam timetable, for the 3 I need to do. Now exams run from 30th of April - 30th of May. Some fucking idiots having a bit of a laugh and given me exams on 3 consecutive day, the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of May. Not happy in the slightest. dry.gif

What's the deadline for Uni's to respond to applications? I'm still waiting on Dundee to move their hole and make a decision. Every other uni responded over a month ago. I don't even want to go to Dundee, which is the most frustrating thing. Have a word Dundee, have a word. <_<

Whit? That never happened to me when I was there!

Trouble with a first floor room methinks.

About the third day I was there I had my window open as it was sunny and warm, but had my curtains closed. I went out to go to the toilet, can't have been gone more than a minute, opened my door and this security woman had her head poking through my curtains, on a walkie-talkie reading out my address before I heard my name coming from the other end of the walkie-talkie.

I asked her what the hell she was doing with her head poking through my window and she started lecturing me on the dangers of having a window open. I told her that I was only gone for a minute and she asked 'Is a minute longer than 19 seconds?' I said yes and she then explained that they have timed it and it only takes a thief 19 seconds to go into a room, steal a laptop, and get out again.

The next day I had my window open again, and was just lying in my bed with my eyes closed. Suddenly there was a slam at my window and a different security guard was looming down at me and again started criticising me for having my window open. I said 'But I was in my room' and he then started saying how there was once a 17 year old girl who was sleeping with her window open and a man came in and raped her.

Weirdest lecture I've ever had at uni.

It all depends where you stay in Stirling. I've stayed at Alexander Court, which is way up the back of the Uni by the golf course. Down in John Fortys pretty much half way into to town, and this year in the chalets in Spittal Hill. Chalets are decent in weather like this, with everyone outside. Alexander court was a bit shit when it rained, but for the most part you'd struggle to find a nicer looking place to stay.

They're supposed to respond by the end of March but they technically have until the end of May

Dundee were pretty late getting back to people last year too, especially if it's likely to be a busy course. If you really have no intention of going then you are better off just rejecting it before they get back to you and firming whatever is your first choice, I ended up doing that for Stirling last year.

I really like Dundee, halls are probably one of the best in the country and everything is close by, good union too. biggrin.gif

Ah, I was is a first floor room, I'm assuming by first floor, you mean ground floor if wardens were poking their heads in.

Smoke alarms were the bigger issue I found, although our flat didn't set ours off once hypocrite.gif

When I applied for Economics at Dundee last year, they were the first to reply. I got an offer round about the beginning/middle of February. f**k living in Dundee for 4 years, it's a complete bin and it's too far from the central belt.
