Who's Going To Uni?

Study hard and you may end up with first class honours in 'Making Pals'.

Yep, exactly the kind of attitude which will see you pumped out after 1 and a half terms.

1st lecture of that course: Listen and repeat: "What's your name, where you from and what are you doing?".

15 credits right there.

left school after 4th year with a 3 in woodwork and a 5 in home ec

I'll be spending 4 years dossing about on taxpayers money studying for a pointless degree. Does this make you angry? 8)

It's cheaper than having you dossing about on taxpayers money looking for a job and failing to get one, so I'd imagine it probably doesn't.

Yep. Its just somewhere to sleep for a few months, when did students start getting so damn fussy?

It's easy to look down on others when my halls have an en-suite bathroom and a big HD television in the communal area. cool.gif

Nah, but seriously, it's the kind of attitude that doesn't really work.

People do get pumped out quickly if they don't take it at all seriously, my cousin was pumped out of RGU for this exact reason. Or worse if you scramble into honours then fail you've effectively wasted two years.

Socialising is important, but people that go out clubbing before exams or just don't hand in coursework are just wasting their time really.

I feel sorry for you more than anything that your main reason for going to Uni is to make pals.

What is wrong with what he is saying? The social aspect is a good reason to go to uni, much better than the "to get a job" justification.

Extremely doubtful. I wouldn't have a problem with being on the dole for 4 years if it were possible. Waking up at 3pm and having Ricicles for dinner actually sounds quite good tbh.

I always thought that the primary reason that you went to university was to gain qualifications that would one day see you compete for top jobs or at least a job that you really wanted to do.

The social aspect being an everyday occurence just like life outside a university course.

Silly me!

Apology accepted. Let's not have it happen again.

My brother joined the 'I went out drinking and put in minimum effort, ain't I so cool?!' gang when he was at uni. Needless to say he spent three and a half years at uni building up student loan debt along with a hefty SAAS bill because of a repeated year before dropping out without even making third year. Pretty expensive party.

Uh-huh, and how probable is being on JSA for 1 hole year, never mind 4 consecutive years?

The social thing is important as you actually encounter people outside your normal peer group. Its people of all backgrounds and nationalities thrown together, and its a good thing, because it is a lot different from socialising with the same pals all your life. Obviously, there has to be balance, but going just to get a job is a terrible attitude imo, and people that do that tend not to get the most out of uni, and in most cases, it can be a wasted experience. I'm not saying just go to party or anything like that, but the social aspect is definitely important.
